BORING BILLION is now on view at CANICULA in Venice. Composed entirely of fragments collected online, the film became a portrait of exhausted machines still trying to adapt, upgrade, and survive, until they burn out from their techno-optimistic dreams and begin to metabolize exhaustion as fuel. It took shape over nearly one year of accumulation, hesitation, dead ends, and unexpected returns. There were moments when the film felt impossible to digest, as if these industrial materials themselves resisted being affectively organized, refusing any human-scale narrative. None of this would have been possible without the extraordinary people who carried the project through its most fragile moments. Deepest thanks to @fondazioneinbetweenartfilm for the trust and long-term support, and to @alessandrorabottini , @leonardobigazzi and @abinoppst for accompanying the work with such precision from the very beginning. Thank you also to @thevegafoundation and @julia.e.paoli for your generous support and presence throughout the process. Thank you to the entire team: to the incredible @2050.plus for translating the spirit of the work into space; to @liviapolacco99 and @anninacastelli for your care and attention to detail; to the designers, technicians, installers, coordinators, mediators, and everyone working behind the scenes. Sending love to all the artists sharing this chapter of CANICULA together, whose works resonate with one another through shared intensities. And huge shoutout to my accomplice and sound designer RaphaĂ«l Henard, whose work gave the film its flesh and soul. Sometimes films cannot really be “finished.” They simply reach a point where they can finally leave our bodies. Sneak peek from “Boring Billion” (2026), the new work by Yuyan Wang premiering in our forthcoming group exhibition #CaniculaVenice on May 6, 2026, at the Complesso dell’Ospedaletto on the occasion of @labiennale 2026 in Venice Curated by @alessandro.rabottini and @leonardobigazzi , CANICULA is the 3rd and final chapter of the ‘Trilogy of Uncertainties,’ a series of exhibitions we initiated in 2022 and that has seen the Complesso dell’Ospedaletto transformed each time into a form of cinematic architecture CANICULA presents 8 new site-specific video installations commissioned from Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Massimo D’Anolfi and Martina Parenti, Roman Khimei and Yarema Malashchuk, Janis Rafa, P. Staff, Wang Tuo, Yuyan Wang, Maya Watanabe The exhibition takes on the dazzling light and sweltering heat that characterise the dog days of summer as metaphors for the present day, a time saturated with excesses and distortions: extreme light and heat are thus considered to be the material and metaphorical frames within which matter, people and ideas are subject to immense pressure. CANICULA places at the centre of the narrative the individual and collective responses to a landscape consumed by technology, eroded by inequalities and polluted by propaganda, exploring the psychological, political and social dimensions of the intolerable climate in which we are immersed. The works form a choral scenario wherein the questions of control, information, science, war, the production of memory and the administration of power and truth, are all wondered about The scenography of the show, designed once again by @2050.plus , brings to life the curatorial concept through a series of spatial and sensory interventions and through the use of materials that evoke fatigue and deterioration For more info, visit Excerpt from Yuyan Wang, Boring Billion, 2026. Introducing Yuyan Wang, who will participate in CANICULA, the third and final chapter of the “Trilogy of Uncertainties,” a series of exhibitions organised by Fondazione In Between Art Film at the Complesso dell’Ospedaletto, Venice, on the occasion of La Biennale di Venezia Curated by @alessandro.rabottini and @leonardobigazzi , CANICULA will open to the public on May 6, 2026 with 8 newly video installations commissioned to Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Massimo D’Anolfi and Martina Parenti, Roman Khimei and Yarema Malashchuk, Janis Rafa, P. Staff, Wang Tuo, Yuyan Wang, and Maya Watanabe The practice of Yuyan Wang (1989, China) investigates the afterlives of images and material uploaded to online video sharing platforms. In particular, it traces their industrial production, circulation, mutation and proliferation within digital ecosystems. Wang has worked with various pieces of found footage, showing everything from dark slime and factories making plastic plants to swarming crowds, LED assembly lines and ASMR content, which she recomposes (or ‘recycles,’ as she puts it) into intensely affective, rhythmic assemblages. Her approach to montage is both critical and compassionate, and sees her dismantling and reconfiguring established hierarchies of value, authorship and meaning. Wang’s video installations open up immersive sensory experiences while providing disquieting reflections on the oversaturated logic that drives our contemporary, algorithmically-anchored visual culture Her work has been showcased at art events and institutions including the 2025 Gwangju Biennale; the 12th Berlin Biennale; Tate, London; the Centre Pompidou, Paris; the Palais de Tokyo, Paris; UCCA – Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing; the Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin; the WanĂ„s Konst, Knislinge; and 3bisf – Centre d’arts contemporains, Aix-en-Provence; and at festivals such as Berlinale; the International Film Festival Rotterdam; Doc Fortnight at the Museum of Modern Art, New York; CPH:DOX; and the European Media Art Festival, OsnabrĂŒck. Her films have received numerous awards Image credit: Portrait by aiqing. Courtesy of the artist Visual identity: @lorenzomasonstudio #caniculavenice

🌝 🌌 🩗   ***   Glowing, flaring, lurid, loud - a solo exhibition by Yuyan Wang‹April 3 to August 30, 2026 Opening: Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 6 pm Curator:  Elsa Vettier   “In the space of a single moment, a few rock fragments shine at the bottom of a cave. The beam of light that reveals them then begins to climb through a narrow passage up to the earth’s surface. Before it gets there, it lingers in tunnels and lights up mineral walls that glow blue, green, and fluorescent. This is the beginning of a film by Yuyan Wang, but it could just as well represent the very beginnings of cinema itself: a light source projected onto the wall of a cave reveals images that, until then, had remained shrouded in darkness.”   Excerpt from the text of the exhibition Glowing, flaring, lurid, loud, by Elsa Vettier. New interview! đŸ–Œïž Yuyan Wang’s GREEN GREY BLACK BROWN is now nominated for the New Critics & New Audiences Award 2026 hosted by Talking Shorts. In this conversation with Tianyu Jiang, the director talks about her new experimental documentary — an enchanting procession of images, revealing the flawed rationale behind techno-solutionist visions of the future. The eight nominated films are streaming globally, for free, on Talking Shorts from February 4 to 18, for the audience to decide their favourite. The winning filmmaker will receive a cash prize of €1000,-. GREEN GREY BLACK BROWN was nominated for the New Critics & New Audiences Award 2026 at Bucharest International Experimental Film Festival by Alexandra Sirotenko, Cindy Chehab, Mai Nguyen, Najrin Islam, Raouf Moussa, and Tania HernĂĄndez GonzĂĄlez, the participants of the European Workshop for New Curators #2. Last month, I had a dreamlike residency at @3bisf , which took shape as the exhibition Weather, within the former isolation room of a mental hospital. Working in this context and exchanging with the patients was a striking reminder that if we are not, at times, baffled, amazed, or undone by the world around us, rendered speechless and stunned, perhaps we are not paying close enough attention. I’m grateful for the trust and generosity of the patients and the entire team for their presence throughout this process. Heartfelt thanks to @degaulejacmarie 🌅for the invitation, and to @pony_pride__ 🌄 for the site-specific sound creation and their generous gift in accompanying the exhibition. Weather is on view until March 21, 2026. 3 bis f, Centre d’arts contemporains d’intĂ©rĂȘt national, Aix-en-Provence. 'WEATHER' (2025) | YUYAN WANG | THE DOUGLAS HYDE The current exhibition '#16161D' by artist and filmmaker Yuyan Wang at The Douglas Hyde presents compelling new and existing films distilled from found footage from the vast landscape of online digital imagery. 'Weather' (2025) is presented on a screen on the lower level of Gallery 1, playing on a continuous loop. Wang has gathered and collaged videos of spectacular weather events, alluding to the desensitisation that is an inevitable consequence of the sheer volume of imagery we now mindlessly consume. 'Weather' (2025) can be viewed alongside other key works in #16161D until 25th May 2025. Not to be missed! The Douglas Hyde is open from 12pm to 5pm, Wednesday to Sunday, and 12pm to 6pm on Thursdays. For more information on exhibitions and events, click on the link in the bio or visit thedouglashyde.ie/whats-on/ @yuyanwang Image Credits: 1&3. CURRENT EXHIBITION | #16161D by Yuyan Wang until 25.05.25 The title of the exhibition #16161D refers to the HEX or colour code for ‘intrinsic grey’ – the uniform dark, grey colour that people see in the absence of light, for example, when we close our eyes. Through key works presented in #16161D including Look on the Bright Side and Green Grey Black Brown, Wang considers our ability to absorb and metabolise a constant stream of visual information, from the spectacular to the disastrous. For her exhibition at The Douglas Hyde, Wang presents existing film works alongside new works in progress in an immersive installation that spans Gallery 1. Shifting in scale between the intimate and the immense, the work reflects the clash between the destructive impact of humans on the natural world, and our own fragility in the face of nature. @yuyanwang For more information about the current exhibitions and events click the link in the bio. A few glimpses from my solo show #16161D which opened last week at @dhg_dublin . A heartfelt thank you to @emmamoremoore and @georgina_jackson__ for bringing my work to Ireland, and to the incredible gallery team—Rachel McIntyre, @niamhdarling_ , Aoife McCloughlin, Paul McGrane, @abominable_eoghan , Matthew Coll, and John Beattie—for their dedication and meticulous care in bringing this exhibition to life in its fullest formđŸȘ„ The title #16161D refers to a specific HEX color code, evoking the deep dark gray that lingers on our retinas when we close our eyes. We use this metaphorical backdrop to bring together a selection of my previous works, alongside some new pieces made in response to the gallery’s unique Brutalist architecture and atmosphere. With this invitation, I had the pleasure of expanding further my collaboration with #raphaelhenard, weaving spectral images, sound, and fading memories into a haunted garden within an ever-evolving synthetic landscape. Special thanks to everyone who helped bring abandoned plastic chairs to the showđŸȘ©
