a few weekends ago, my deep love for felines led me to leave miami around 4am to embark on a 5 hour drive to sanford FL to attend a cat show, an event i’ve always been fascinated about and (embarrassingly) never found/made the time. there have been many projects on dog shows, the infamous
@westminsterkennelclub best in show, but i was very curious how a cat show would photograph and feel like, as i found less coverage on that, which made sense as cats by nature are more frightened more cautious, they wouldn’t be just out with their owners like dogs, so this proved an immense challenge to make interesting photographs. i was also told to chill on no flash which again, made sense — i spent most of the first hour extremely stimulated and slightly overwhelmed at where to start — the scene was colorful, the announcements were constant of what ring to be at with owners running around bringing their cats to the judging tables. it was the
@ibjjf of cats lol. it was crucial to be in no ones way, and again, these are mf CATS, not just dogs you can pet or say hello to, their nature is more fragile. i had an insane time learning about how the show worked, funny (and obviously weird) conversations with owners and a non judge mental just straightforward “are your hands clean? these are show cats” response when i asked to pet one but i politely understood and apologized completely forgetting “right im in another world, SHOW world…”
i mainly shot digital (i know so not meeee), as i had to stay far away and not interfere with judging or the cats attention, but these are some film shots i was able to capture towards the end of the day and some sick videos of the ordeal, these judges know their shit to a crazyyyyy degree, i often sat with participants and just learned myself and clapped along at everyone’s excitement and pride for their wins.
this is definitely 1 out of the many shows i intend to capture this year because if you know me, i luv wEiRD and this was everything i wanted and more 🐈⬛🐈😸
thank you the kind people at
@cfacats for taking my email seriously 🫠
film always:
