10 years ago, our founder @kaepernick7 created the Know Your Rights Camp after Mario Woods killed by police in San Francisco. Our first physical camp took place in Oakland California and being able to return back after all of these years has been powerful. In collaboration with the WNBA's Golden State Valkyries, our 16th Camp reached new heights. The day opened with a powerful fireside chat featuring our co-founders Colin and Nessa alongside legendary activist Dr. Angela Davis. This historic conversation set the tone for the entire day, delivering a clear message to our youth: their time to lead, to resist, and to transform the world is now. We are deeply grateful for two incredible women, Gwen Woods (Mother of Mario Woods) and Reverend Wanda Johnson (Mother of Oscar Grant), for joining. As our founder @Kaepernick7 reminded us, "...We do not forget them, we do not forget their children, and we do not forget the impact that has on our community." Endless gratitude to our co-founders @kaepernick7 & @nessnitty , our #KYRC team, volunteers, and powerful presenters who made this day unforgettable. Together, we keep pushing forward. 📸 @amari_kenoly

Nearly three years after our first Los Angeles Camp at The Beehive, we returned to meet a new moment shaped by growing challenges to immigrant communities. Our 15th camp was a powerful day centered on immigration rights, education, and empowerment. Workshops and panels led by KYRC presenters, community partners, and educators provided tools for resistance, healing, and hope. With the support of the Roybal staff, and our incredible volunteers, KYRC Los Angeles 2025 became a day of unity, learning, and love. Know Your Rights Camp Immigration Rights French Update KYRC Mobile App Update! The latest wave of mass deportations ordered by the current presidential administration compelled KYRC to take swift action, enhancing our mobile app to serve as a strong lifeline for undocumented immigrants. Recognizing the urgent need for reliable, state-specific immigration rights information, we expanded the app’s capabilities to ensure that migrants confronting the complexities of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have access to clear, immediate guidance when it matters most. What began as a resource in English and Spanish has now grown even further—we’re proud to announce the addition of French, reinforcing our commitment to making critical information accessible to more communities in need. A federal judge ruled Thursday that Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency "blatantly used" race, gender, and other protected characteristics to execute the largest mass termination of federal grants in the history of the National Endowment for the Humanities, with DOGE staffers using ChatGPT and DEI keywords to slash funding for projects on Black civil rights, Holocaust testimony, Asian American history, Native tribes, and women. U.S. District Judge Colleen McMahon called the cuts "deeply troubling," particularly the defunding of a Holocaust project centered on Jewish women, while DOGE staffer Nate Cavanaugh admitted in depositions that despite causing widespread harm, they "didn't" actually reduce the federal deficit. This ruling makes it impossible to pretend DOGE was ever about efficiency, it was a calculated assault on the histories and voices of minorities, dressed up in the language of fiscal responsibility. The Supreme Court's ruling against drawing congressional maps to protect minority voters has sparked "a historic moment" of redistricting, with four additional Southern states now moving to redraw majority-minority districts originally created under the Voting Rights Act. Representative Terri Sewell of Alabama warned the decision "will not only suppress minority votes in the halls of Congress, but it will erode minority representation in statehouses, city councils, and even school boards across this nation," and congressional correspondent Lisa Desjardins concluded "it is highly likely that we'd see fewer Black and brown members of Congress next year." Stripping away the very protections that gave Black and Brown communities a fighting chance at representation isn't fairness, it's a deliberate rollback of civil rights progress dressed up in race-neutral language. ICE has sharply curtailed transparency around detainee deaths, replacing detailed reports with brief summaries even as fatalities reach their highest level in decades and more than 60,000 people remain in custody. DHS maintains that detention standards exceed those of most U.S. prisons, but migrants’ accounts often tell a different story, and cases with conflicting or incomplete findings remain unresolved. What’s happening here isn’t abstract, it’s happening to real people whose lives end behind locked doors, far from public view. When deaths increase and the details disappear, it becomes harder to ask questions, harder to assign responsibility, and easier for the same failures to continue unchecked. No agency should have the power to detain people and control the narrative around those deaths at the same time—because without transparency, accountability isn’t just weakened, it becomes impossible. Tennessee's Republican-led legislature has carved majority-Black Memphis into three congressional districts stitched to rural, conservative voters, diluting Black voting strength to roughly 29%, 29%, and 31% across the new lines. State Representative Justin J. Pearson called the vote "a political lynching" that set Tennessee back more than 150 years, while Congressman Steven Cohen said the map was a rigged deal designed to favor a preferred Republican challenger. This isn't just gerrymandering, it's the opening move in a darker national playbook that quietly undoes the very representation our parents and grandparents marched, bled, and died to win, and if it stands in Tennessee, it will spread. We'll continue to follow and update as more comes out. Drop your thoughts below. Link: /post/tennessee-splits-memphis-into-three-districts-diluting-black-voting-power
