What impact does imprisonment have on the family of an inmate? And how does enforcing and expanding drug laws affect the prison system? On May 9th, our new exhibition opens: Confined to some, debarred from others, a solo exhibition by artist Robert Glas. In the past, there was a more active public conversation about the criminal justice system and whether it was the right tool to maintain a society. Today, that public conversation is hardly being held. This exhibition presents artworks that invite visitors to critically reflect on and reconsider the criminal justice system, in the hope of reviving this long-neglected public debate. Currently on show @platform_post in Arnhem Watch it Collapse โ€“ Old Money Never Dies, a solo by Julius Thissen. Watch It Collapse:ย Old Money Never Diesย is an exhibition exploring transgender and queer visibility, with a specific focus on the dystopian political character of our time. After all, transgender and queer visibility does not exist in a vacuum; it is intersectional in nature. In recent years, it has become painfully tangible in many areas, such as social, economic and ecological domains, that emancipation is not a linear process. This is the consequence of the growing and suffocating grip of neoliberalism and fascism. A concrete example of this can be found in the stiff populist debate about the generally disturbing (global) regression surrounding bodily autonomy and trans rights. Inย Watch It Collapse,ย Julius Thissen shows new works of art that are artistically responding to these issues. Read more in a in-depth interview with Julius at: https://platformpost.nl/uploads/POST-WIC-publicatie(digitaal).pdf On show until 08.10.2023! @juliusthissen

Currently on show @platform_post in Nijmegen: Outside the Text with works by Sadik Kwaish Alfraji, Annabelle Binnerts, Nicoline van Harskamp, Laura Jatkowski, Ana Linhares & Natalia Papaeva. Outside the Text focuses on the question of how language shapes our reality. By assigning words to objects, situations and basically everything around us, we give meaning to our world. To a certain extent you could say that we live in a linguistic reality. Less discussed is whether this also works the other way around; how the same language can also create realities and therefore can hold structures of power in place. At a time when language and specific words are being scrutinized, this question appears to be more relevant as ever. To what extent do words matter? Are there also things left unsaid or gaps in our vocabulary when using language to put forward individual or collective narratives? And how does language (un)consciously create new realities for us? On show until 24.09.2023! @annabellebinnerts @analinharesm25 @harskampnicolinevan @sadikalfraji @laurajatko @aryatsagan

Last days of For What Itโ€™s Worth at @garagerotterdam . Visit while you can! Highlight of today: Labour Series byย Priscila Fernandesโ€จ(2021) Priscila Fernandes is interested in testing if the introduction of a culture of leisure into the fabric of our working lives could create new perceptions and sensorial experiences. By setting up situations in which Fernandes engages in leisure activities, such as by roller-skating, swimming from pool to pool, relaxing in a hammock or learning to ski, she simultaneously uses these activities to create large scale paintings. Interesting coincidences start to emerge, such as the American invention of roller skates in the 60โ€™s and Abstract Expressionism or the Anthropometries performances by Yves Klein with the first inflatable swimming pool. These situations are photographed and integrated within the series entitled Labour Series. Photo by Aad Hoogendoorn

Last days of For What Itโ€™s Worth at @garagerotterdam . Visit while you can! Highlight of today: Family Business (2021) by Silke Schรถnfeldย @silke.schoenfeld In 1975 the company of the Vossen family was replaced by the very first McDonaldโ€™s of the Ruhr Area. The film Family Business (2021) shows how this location evolved from a store with household goods to a fastfoodrestaurant (and temporary practice place of a band). In the video-installation of Silke Schรถnfeld personal memories are bundled with collective ones. Photo by Aad Hoogendoorn

Last days of For What Itโ€™s Worth at @garagerotterdam . Visit while you can! Highlight of today: Re-education (2012) by Juan Pรฉrez Agirregoikoa A modest show, childisch pop-upbooks, ridiculous games, regressive adult masquerades. This series of 3D aquarel drawings bundled into a publication suggest that our world is a place in which the word โ€˜re-educationโ€™ has become an ornament for dogs, the shining mark of the master. Last days of For What Itโ€™s Worth at @garagerotterdam . Visit while you can! Highlight of today: A Moment of Darkness by Diego Tonus (2022) Artistโ€™s Proofs for A Moment of Darkness are a series of studies of positions and materials for the sculpture A Moment of Darkness part of the series Fragments of a Conversation with a Counterfeiter. These Artistโ€™s Proofs contain a secret: the fingerprints of the hands and face of the forger, impressed by the casting process. The sculpture A Moment of Darkness is an aluminium cement sculpture, life-cast and constructed to resemble the forger, who is posing without revealing his identity. Inside this anonymous sculpture of the forger, a metal sheet engraved with the key-code granting access to 1 Bitcoin, is hidden. The artistic value of the sculpture and the hidden value of the cryptocurrency are coexisting within this work. Each is susceptible to the floating valuation of specific markets, trade fluctuations and investment security. Both are held within their set form and underline the notion of belief in relation to the creation of worth. And so, access to these values is either possible in the long run, or after a destructive action. Read more in the online catalogue on the website of Garage Rotterdam! Photo by Aad Hoogendoorn

Last days of For What Itโ€™s Worth at @garagerotterdam . Visit while you can! Highlight of today: Fata Morgana (2019) by Sanne Vaassen (@sannevaassen ) The most successful belief system on earth is the faith in money. Currencies as decorated paper represent this very system. Within the installation Fata Morgana (2019), artist Sanne Vaassen deconstructs currencies of different countries. She visualizes the money within a new context by merging them as a loop on a 16-mm film projector. Photo by Aad Hoogendoorn
