PĂĄez Indigenous Reservation - Nasawe'sx
a coffee symbol of PEACE đď¸
The inhabitants of the Nasa Wes'x from Gaitania Indigenous Territory, in Planadas, Tolima, arrived in these lands after being displaced from Cauca during the Thousand Days War (civil conflict in Colombia at the end of the 19th century).
They settled in the high mountains of Gaitania, forming The PaĂŠz indigenous reservation there. All without suspecting that years later and very close to this place, in Marquetalia, one of the first guerrilla groups in the history of Colombia would emerge, the FARC.
Due to the fierce confrontation between the Military Forces and the guerrillas, the Nasa suffered the cruelty of war, saw their integrity and the autonomy of their territory threatened for decades. On July 26, 1996, the Nasawe'sx people tried a dialogue approach with the leaders of the 21st Front of the FARC and signed the only current peace agreement that any Colombian community has with this guerrilla.
Today, itâs been 27 years since the celebration of the pact that put an end to the days of violence in their territory and since then, the community celebrates it as a triumph dedicated to life.
Specialty coffee, which is recognized as one of the best in Colombia from this region of southern Tolima, would become a tool to consolidate the local economy and peace in this area.
The Nasa people proudly narrate their own memories of peace in order to continue building a territory based on the defense of life.
I feel privileged to have met and been welcomed by this community in this beautiful land that is also mine đ

7 years after the first Q certification, and still learning đđź
Staying up to date isnât optional; itâs part of doing things right. It means continuing to learn, adapting to evolving standards, and improving how coffee quality is evaluated every day.
Because a good cup isnât just about a score. Its value also comes from traceability, from the work done at origin, and from the many decisions behind each coffee.
Specialty coffee has, at times, leaned into unnecessary snobbery. But the focus should remain where it matters: transparency, respect for the process, and delivering something genuinely meaningful in the cup.
All of it with one purpose: to offer a coffee that reflects care, consistency, and aligns with what each customer truly enjoys âď¸
