Modern Nature’s new album The Heat Warps has been in the world for a week and a half and if you haven’t given it a listen yet, you should!
Right there on the cover, what you see is what you get: Jim Wallis, Jack Cooper, Tara Cunningham, and myself. That’s the new lineup of the band and it’s a good one. I’m on bass now.
We recorded this album live to tape with Ed Deegan at the end of 2024. I think it perfectly suits the false fall we’re experiencing in New York right now: brisk and with the faintest breeze. The music speaks for itself, and you’ll find it on all streaming platforms and available to purchase at the link in my bio.
Thanks for coming to see the band last night, it’s called Jeff Tobias until a better name becomes available. Ask us to play a gig and we will play it. Photo by the President of the Drums

Mandatory Liberation Vol. 2 is out now - link in thee bio
NYC labels Strategy of Tension and Gold Bolus Recordings have come together again for their second joint benefit compilation. Mandatory Liberation Vol. 2 is a digital collection of 19 tracks offered in support of trans liberation. All proceeds from sales will go to @glits_inc , a Black, trans-led advocacy organization that combats systemic discrimination.
Among the notable tracks are the first released song from Crying Laughing, the Baltimore-based quintet featuring former members of Smoke Bellow; new music by beloved Chicago avant-pop group Icy Demons; multi-instrumentalist Mikel Patrick Avery (of Natural Information Society); Los Angeles duo Sharpie Smile; as well as the UK duo of guitarist/vocalists Jack Cooper and Tara Cunningham of Modern Nature.
We love all of these artists enormously and appreciate their Capt Planet style willingness to come together for the greater good. Put it in yr Bandcamp Friday cart!
It’s hard to believe my new album has been out for 34 days. Hell it’s hard to believe anything these days (deepfakes). I believe this show we’re doing at @mamatriedbk on Dec 3 will be great. If you haven’t listened to the record yet why not give it a spin today. Thank you if you’ve already checked it out and you’re welcome if you enjoyed it.
