Not lost on me, how insanely fortunate I am to have been back to visit SNL for what I believe is the 9th time. To get to see that spectacular talent & kind human @oliviarodrigo make her hosting debut… And have a front row seat to @mikeyfuntime yet again being brilliant… but esp to see the incredibly generous leader he has become in that cast - the way he has accepted that responsibility onstage & off, with chill grace was so profound. I am in awe of all of it & I will never take for granted a visit to this place that teems with genius & creativity. 💫 @thepaulaverse you are the actual best… let’s pls take over the world.

‘Someone Found the Words’ from ALL THE WORLD’S A STAGE by @gwonster 🩵 Full song on my YouTube :) I love this show so much, I wrote a whole personal essay about it. Read on if you dare… The cast recording of ALL THE WORLD’S A STAGE came out at the end of February. I had it pre-saved. I was already excited to listen to it because I had loved this show so much when I saw it in New York last year. And now that I’ve been able to spend more time with it, I…may be obsessed. The score speaks to my heart in such a way that I actually have gotten chills and cried just listening through it 🫢 And it takes a LOTTT for music alone to move me to tears. But oofff this score! This show! These performances. These orchestrations. Every time I listen, the deeper it hits. The show takes place in 1996, as we follow Ricky, a closeted gay math teacher, whose compartmentalized life unravels as he coaches a misfit student, Samantha, for a state theatre competition. Part of that life involves a budding romance with a local bookstore owner, Michael. Their meet-cute culminates with a song called “Dinner.” I remember thinking it was sweet in the show. But hearing it again, I felt almost giddy with excitement? Even in musical theatre, I’m not very used to hearing two queer characters singing to each other. The flirting! Ricky opening himself up to romance! Seeing him in a way that we never could at the school where he teaches. And during this moment, I was like… omg this is so me. I’ve so been there. I grew up in a very white, Christian community. I like to think I did a really good job fitting into that community. I’m a chronic people-pleaser (yes, I’m in therapy), and I was always trying to make sure people felt comfortable around me. At the same time, I was taking dance and musical theatre classes downtown with kids from other schools. I felt like I was bringing out different parts of myself in each setting. A truly magical Spring Break. I think we’re all changed by this one. Laughing thru car rides, late night card games of Hearts (thx to @michaelawat teaching us over FaceTime), eating up the history, eating up the pasta, shopping more than we’d like to admit, consuming the art, consuming the wine… learning our powder room is wallpapered in @teatrolafenice … We’ll never forget the acute details of this trip. Can I talk for a sec about my fellow producers on the album WHO ARE STRAIGHT UP GENIUSES?! -A word that kept coming out of my mouth while we were recording this OCR, bc I was constantly compelled to address the entire control room this way. I am in such awe of all of you (& @starobin & @jonnysilvernyc ) & I’m so grateful for your tireless commitment to this gorgeous album. Obsessed with this guy. Neal Avron is not only an insanely brilliant record producer and mixer, he is also one of the most gracious, kindest collaborators. He has a legendary career in rock & mainstream music, & quickly won a Grammy in the musical theatre genre after adding that realm to his discography w iconic OCRs like Waitress, DEH & Jagged Little Pill. I am indebted to @m_shinoda of @LinkinPark for recommending him. Neal gave this perfectionist producing team a run for its money & I LOVE everything about the way he works. Andrea Grody & I met bc she was the MD on Suffs on Bway (an OCR she was Grammy-nom’d for btw!). I was immediately taken by the joyful, outgoing eagerness of this obvious genius. I couldn’t believe my luck, that Adam Gwon had already tapped her to MD ALL THE WORLD. Andrea’s attention to detail would be overwhelming -except she’s so freaking lovely and charmingly takes for granted an expectation for others to share the very HIGH standards she holds for herself. Writer/composer Adam Gwon has been a dear friend since our days at NYU together (Adam is a brilliant actor!). I never expected or meant to produce a show of his, let alone an album… But here we are, and this journey with him and this EXQUISITE show he wrote has been a dream. I’ll say it again, Adam… Geniuses are a dime a dozen, but your superpower is the fact that you are a genius who writes with such heart & optimism.
