Exciting Announcement 📢
We have come together with the brilliant Patricia van den Akker of @thedesigntrust and photographer and Squarespace expert Yeshen Venema @yeshen.uk to invite you to host a storytelling workshop designed for creative businesses.
Creatives from across North London and beyond are warmly invited to join this session to gain inspiration and connect with other creative professionals, freelancers and small business owners.

📍 The Council Chamber in the iconic and newly restored Hornsey Town Hall, Crouch End, North London
Many creatives create beautiful work and share great images, but struggle to express what makes them unique. Without a clear story, it’s hard to stand out, attract the right clients, or build a recognisable presence.
⭐️Creative business adviser & trainer Patricia will lead a practical one hour workshop where you will discover how to communicate the story at the heart of your creative practice, so your audience understands not just what you do, but why it matters. Through a mix of short teaching, reflection, and simple exercises, you’ll explore how to clarify your message, connect with your ideal audience, and bring more personality and meaning into your work. You will be working on your own creative business and work with other creatives too.
⭐️This workshop will be followed by a 30mins presentation by photographer and Square Space expert Yeshen Venema on how to use images to communicate your brand values and tell your story visually.
There will also be time for questions and to network with other creatives.
Followed by an optional tour of the Hornsey Town Hall.

🌱WHOLEHEARTED - SCHOOLS OF THE FLOWER LIGHT EXHIBITION🌱
🌷 Last week, our artist-in-residence @annemckenzieart ran a workshop with @lanchesterprimary She focused the session on the theme “wholeheartedly” influenced by the Japanese art of Shodō that underpins her practice.
📣The pieces created by @lanchesterprimary and Healthlands school, St Albans will be exhibited alongside Anne’s residency works in the Flower Light exhibition this April (details below)
🌿It was a unique opportunity for the group to step out of school, slow down, connect with the natural world, and explore new ways of thinking and feeling.
🌀The session began with a body warm-up to release tension and draw energy into their hands, ready for the calligraphy brush. They then experimented with shapes and techniques before choosing a flowering bulb — Tulips and Crocus — to observe and represent wholeheartedly in their own botanical calligraphy.

🌱BOTANIC CALLIGRAPHY THROUGH THE SEASONS WITH ANNE MCKENZIE 🌱
Throughout the year, our Artist in Residence @annemckenzieart has been visiting the Plant Library, selecting the plants she feels most drawn to as the seasons change — including Iris, Lilium, and Anemone.
Sitting peacefully among the library, she is often quietly observed by curious school groups, and community visitors, as she practices her integrated creative discipline of botanic calligraphy. This unique art form blends Shodō and traditional Japanese calligraphy.
Anne’s practice is rooted in Zen philosophy, with a strong emphasis on presence, mindfulness, and a connection to the natural world and its cycles.
In addition to her artistic work, Anne is a trained therapeutic art practitioner and as part of her residency, she will be offering workshops for our therapeutic groups and local schools.

For today’s #makermonday we would like to introduce Yeshen Venema, who will be returning to New Brewery Arts for a second time to host two workshops aimed at professional makers at this year’s Craftival event (29th May – 12th July).
Yeshen is a Product and Lifestyle Photographer and Squarespace Specialist with a passion for helping artists, designer-makers and micro businesses thrive, having seen how professional photography and websites transform sales, brands and even personal confidence.
He completed a foundation course at The University for the Creative Arts in Farnham followed by a BA in Marketing & Advertising at UAL in London. Before setting up his own photography studio he worked in many roles across the events and music industries including some time in Stockholm, Amsterdam and even Bavaria.
