Welcome to the Fold! I'm Amy, I set up Mark+Fold in 2015 to create the kind of stationery I was looking for, but struggled to find.
As someone who loves organisation, and gets great joy from using good stationery, I had grown frustrated with the declining quality on offer — notebooks that would not open flat, poor quality paper that allowed the ink to show through. I wanted something well-made, minimal, a perfect blank canvas for my notes.
And so began the quest to create the perfect notebook — every detail had to be just right, from the binding to the paper to the way it is wrapped and delivered. It felt instinctive to share the behind the scenes of how our products are made, simply because the processes are so beautiful and the people so inspiring. But this soon became a trademark of our process: transparent production and championing the amazing skill that goes into making things properly.
Over the past 10 years I have had the great joy of discovering that I am not alone in my obsession with stationery — far from it in fact. Mark+Fold has acted as a magnet for people all over the world who share this attention to detail and appreciation of fine paper goods. It has been such a delight to get to know so many of you, and to see more and more joining the Fold each day.
Every item we create starts with conversations within this community. We meticulously test our designs to ensure they really 'work' and research every material we use to ensure it meets our high standards of quality and sustainability. We have grown a network of trusted makers who share our perfectionist approach.
The result is a range of stationery that inspires your best work and simply feels great to use every day. We are extremely proud of our customer loyalty, with the majority of people who try our stationery just once, becoming regular repeat customers for many years after. ✏️ @goodsforthestudy in Manhattan is an 'analog oasis' founded in 2013 by Sarah McNally as an offshoot of her popular independent bookstore, McNally Jackson. This curated, calm space for high-quality, physical writing tools, pencils, paper, and desk accessories aims to remind New Yorkers of the value of putting pen to paper in a digital world, acting partly as a museum of writing tools and partly as a practical shop.
✏️ @mrboddington Studio in Brooklyn began twenty years ago when founder Rebecca Ruebensaal sought a change from her corporate job, and decided to channel her childhood imaginary friend—a globetrotting gentleman named Mr. Boddington—into a magical space to enjoy putting pen to paper. Located on 7th Ave in Park Slope, the store features a red-striped, cheerful storefront offering hand-illustrated cards, stationery, curated pens, and whimsical books.
