Introducing the cast of NARRATIVES: AAPI VOICES! These bios barely scratch the surface in telling a performer’s full story, and Narratives was developed to go deeper. Our Artistic Director, Maggie Roop, had this to say after popping into rehearsal last night: “What I saw happening in that rehearsal room is not to be missed. These artists are putting themselves out there in a way that is deep and special and their perspective is critical for us to discuss as artists and audiences. Their stories are intimate and specific but represent a broad community that has been excluded from far too many stories, rooms, roles, and casting considerations. But the narratives these performers are sharing go deeper and examine where cultural and societal influences present both limits and opportunities personally, professionally, and artistically. I admire their vulnerability and am moved by how their stories and performances reminded me why we at @yesandrva present this series — and why I keep coming back to theatre as a touchstone and a North Star for connection and reflection.” Ticket link in bio! We are so excited to collaborate with Anne Michelle Forbes, Kai Avila, Rine Nguyen, and Shinji Elspeth Oh on our next Narratives cabaret; an exploration of AAPI representation on Broadway featuring iconic tunes from classics like Flower Drum Song, The King and I, and Miss Saigon, to contemporary pieces like The…Spelling Bee, Dogfight, and Maybe Happy Ending. Our Narratives cabaret performances are a truly special experience. The evening will include personal stories and perspectives from the cast mixed with powerhouse vocal performances.
