𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐋𝐔𝐒 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐘𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐑𝐚𝐲 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐆𝐚𝐩 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 The University of Lusaka (UNILUS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Yellow Ray Digital in a strategic move aimed at bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application. Speaking during the signing ceremony, UNILUS Vice Chancellor Professor Pinalo Chifwanakeni emphasized the importance of the collaboration in equipping students with practical skills in one of today’s most dynamic and in-demand fields digital marketing. “This partnership will empower our students with the hands-on experience they need to thrive in the digital economy,” Prof. Chifwanakeni said. “The true value of education lies in its ability to prepare learners to solve real world problems, engage with industry tools, and adapt to a rapidly evolving digital landscape.” He further highlighted that the collaboration would also foster research, innovation, and knowledge exchange key pillars in the university’s commitment to academic and professional excellence. Yellow Ray Digital Co-Founder and Creative Director, Adele Makayi, welcomed the partnership, noting its significance in advancing digital skills in Zambia. “This MoU signals the growing importance of digital competencies in today’s economy and reinforces our shared commitment to empowering Zambian professionals with practical, future oriented training,” she said. Makayi also revealed that Yellow Ray Digital has so far facilitated 13 cohorts of its training program, benefiting 256 passionate and ambitious students. “Currently, we’re guiding a dynamic group of 20 learners through the latest cohort. A new short film titled “Final Cut” I came up with after attending the Creator & Corporate Roundtable with @yellowraydigital and @emarkzm . This event shifted how I view creating, and maybe how you should too. As creators we are controlling ourselves into numbness. We are the writers, directors, editors, and stars of our content. Constantly working and redesigning ourselves. One thing that stuck out to me was Chishimba from Dentsu saying, “Learn to give a damn.” It made me think about what it means to care about your work and also the community at large. We have become desensitised to the business of the brand. “Don’t count the people you reach; reach the people that count..” - David Ogilvy It also made me think about how on a grander scale we don’t show up for one another any more. Building partnerships involves “getting out” of your head or work hole, and taking a step back to align oneself. It’s easy to give up but don’t wait to be the Final Cut of yourself to make an impact in the creative space. As creatives we are always “watching ourselves” and filtering in real time. Let loose! There will never be the perfect cut, angle, or video.
