SIFNOS & PAROS, GREECE Ania and I went for a business convening in Athens, then ventured off the path to two islands. Greece gave me two gifts in one trip: the energy of gathering with brilliant people around big ideas, and the reminder that rest, beauty, friendship, and love are not separate from the work — they are what make the work possible. There is a silence on the remote island of Sifnos that doesn’t feel like absence — it feels like arrival. The island doesn’t announce itself. It simply receives you. The hills roll inward, unhurried, as if time here has made peace with itself. Whitewashed walls hold the heat of the afternoon like a breath held long after wonder. Cats sleep in doorways. Bougainvillea spills over everything with a careless grace that takes decades to learn. This is what stillness feels like when it hasn’t been performed — when a place has simply refused to rush, generation after generation, until quiet became its native tongue. You don’t visit Sifnos so much as you exhale into it. We lived traveling with our friends Nell and Grant. PAROS Paros is a poem that rewrites itself with every hour of light. To experience this adventure with my love, was its own special gift. At dawn, the Cycladic villages are pearl and shadow — geometry so clean it looks less like architecture than thought made solid. By midday, the marble pathways blaze. By evening, the Aegean turns the color of a held secret, somewhere between violet and the memory of blue. The whitewashed walls are beautiful, as if they’re a philosophy of their own. Simplicity. Ornament stripped away until what remains is pure: light, stone, water, sky. To walk Paros is to understand that some places don’t need to try. They simply are — and in being, remind you of something essential you’d almost forgotten. @stayatnos ania_bulis @nelldd @stayatnos @coveparos

Don Hansen 1936 - 2026. Last week, we said goodbye to an icon. He was 89. And lived more lives than many. Don was a legendary surfboard shaper & pioneer, clothing brand mogul. founder of Hansen Surfboards and the iconic Ocean Pacific, helping legitimize the business side of the surf industry before it became a global market. A kid from South Dakota who hitchhiked West, apprenticed under Jack O'Neill, and went on to become a key architect of modern surfboard design shape, and visionary behind one of the most iconic brands in surf history. In 2023, he was inducted into the Surfing Walk of Fame, recognized for a lifetime of innovation, mentorship, and contributions that have earned him the respect of peers across generations. His shop in Encinitas still stands. His boards still hang on walls. His influence still runs through the water. But beyond his accomplishments, he will be remembered most for his kindness, mentorship, and the way he believed in people. I’m personally grateful for the generosity that his wife, Shirley, showed my family (Ania, Olivia, Tate, and their dad Ben). He and Shirley split time between Encinitas and Big Sky, and became Godparents to our daughter, Olivia. When Don founded Hansen Surfboards back in 1961, he wasn't just starting a business; he was building a community. A crew of people who felt connected not just to the sport, but to each other because of him. When a competitor surf shop moved to town, he would walk down, introduce himself, and ask what he could do to help. Above all, Don was a family man. His greatest pride lived in the people closest to him and the life he built alongside them. His story is carried forward in them through the traditions he started and the love he gave so fully. Don is survived by his wife, Shirley, and his children, Christian, Heidi, and Josh. Sending huge love to you above, Don. @hansensurfboards

ECAD 2026 — The Explorers Club Annual Dinner Founded in 1904, The Explorers Club is one of the world’s most storied communities of scientists, storytellers, astronauts, and field researchers. Each year, that spirit comes alive at ECAD — a legendary New York gathering celebrating the people pushing the boundaries of human curiosity. I was recently nominated to to be a part of the Explorers Club (fingers crossed) and was honored to attend as a guest of my friend and HATCH Asheville co-founder, Alison Watson. ECAD felt like more than an event. It was a rare convergence of courage, curiosity, wonder, and network effect — bold minds across disciplines, gathered to celebrate discovery and inspire what’s next. At the 122nd dinner, Kris Tompkins was honored for a lifetime of bold conservation leadership — helping protect and restore roughly 15 million acres across Chile and Argentina. She was recognized alongside an extraordinary group including the SPHEREx Mission Team, underwater explorer James Delgado, conservationist Morad Tahbaz, philanthropist Paul Tudor Jones, and Young Explorer awardees Elodie Freymann, Rebecca Hui, and Alexandra Climent. Exploration today spans science, storytelling, biodiversity, space, and the protection of our shared future. @the_explorers_club @hajimoto @npdemember @kennethlacovara @gaelingoexplore @hatchexperience @ania_bulis @dr.sylviaearle @alexandracliment @kristine_tompkins #ExplorersClub #ECAD #HumanPotential #HATCH

What an inspiring night. Celebrating the 1st Amendment. Freedom of Speech. Freedom of Religion. Freedom of Press. Freedom of Assembly. Freedom of Petition. The inaugural Freely First Amendment Music Festival brought together music, community, and the fundamental freedoms that shape our democracy. Huge respect to the Freedom Forum for creating a space where culture and civic values meet. With performances from The Killers, Janelle Monáe, T-Pain Dominic Fike, + more—and powerful reminders of why the First Amendment still matters. Hosted by Academy Award-winner Ariana DeBose, the evening was both a celebration and a reminder: these freedoms require ongoing stewardship. One of the most moving moments: Janelle speaking to identity, pride, and standing with marginalized communities everywhere. Grateful to be part of conversations—and experiences—like this. The Freedom Forum promotes the five essential freedoms protected by the First Amendment. Their work focuses on education, advocacy, and fostering awareness, ensuring these rights are understood and defended.  A huge thank you to dear friend Josh Kirschenbaum, who’s on the board of directors for Freedom Forum, and a thought partner with HATCH at PolicyLink… – and the rest of the Freedom Forum leadership - Jan Neuharth, Brent Jones, David Edleman, Dani Neuharth-Keusch , Barbara Wall, and more, for the critical work you are dedicated to. Thank you. It was also a true gift to be able to share time with fellow HATCHers and awesome humans Abbie Langston, Vanice Dunn, Yosi Sergant, Kenny Andejeski, Jared Silverman, Tom Silverman, and more that we met along the way.

WE WERE GIVEN A MASTERCLASS ON LIVING LIFE. After my dear friend Pete Strom was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, he became acutely aware of our impermanence. Rather than retreat, he felt an urgency to create something deeply meaningful — with and for the people he loves. A gift to his communities of Bozeman, HATCH, Zen, hockey, and service. What unfolded on Feb 21 was far more than a show. As my new friend Brad Wheeler said afterward: “We played music. But Pete was conducting something larger — an intentional act of living in full view of dying.
We weren’t just musicians on a bill. We were students in a masterclass. A masterclass on how to live.
He gave us clarity without preaching it.
He demonstrated courage without dramatizing it.
He showed us how to place our energy where it matters most.” It was a moment of deep reflection — on life, presence, and appreciating the people around us while we can. More than 25 extraordinary HATCHers — musicians, poets, dancers, rappers, artists, and experience designers — donated their time for a one-night-only gathering of creativity, courage, and community. These artists have performed on America’s Got Talent, at Carnegie Hall, for Presidents and Oprah, with work featured in Disney films, blockbuster movies, the NFL, and international galleries. And they showed up — offering their talent, passion, and love. Together, we raised over $22,000 (100% of ticket proceeds) for the Warming Center and Fork & Spoon, serving neighbors who need it most. Thank you, Pete.

TRANSFORMATION HAPPENS AT ELEVATION. The Second Annual Big Sky Ski Week is a wrap. For one week, 60+ founders, investors, artists, scientists, and systems leaders gathered in the mountains of Montana—where world-builders meet mountain culture. Not in conference rooms, but on chairlifts. By the fireside. Over shared meals. In motion. This isn’t just a summit.
It’s a relationship engine. And systems change happens at the speed of relationships. Big Sky Ski Week—created by @hatchexperience , @hubculture , and @futurehorizon.to —is designed to build a “network of networks” to accelerate trust, catalyze ideas, and deepen human connection in one of the most expansive landscapes on Earth. Deep curation.
Purpose-driven humans.
Designed serendipity.
Beautiful intimacy at scale. The nights brought music, dialogue, and unexpected collisions of ideas—from geopolitics to longevity, biotech to the future of AI, capital, climate, and culture. We also brought a famous scientist (Gaelin Rosenwaks) to the local Lone Peak High School, as part of the HATCH Global Voices series in partnership with @moonlightcommunityfoundation
The future is shaped in community, with people you want in your life for decades. This annual cohort represents a rare convergence of leaders across: • Capital, investing, and family offices
• AI, frontier technology, and space
• Climate and regenerative systems
• Culture, media, and storytelling
• Longevity, wellness, and human potential
• Policy, governance, and systems change Grateful to incredible collaborators and contributors, including Stan Stalnaker, Matt Leta, Sean Mackinson, Luke McKay, Golnaz Ashtiani, Otho Kerr, Dominique Nunn, Lara Stein—and the unforgettable music of Thad Beaty, Annie Clements, Amanda Stewart, and the Tuesday Night Rodeo Club. And thank you to our partners @stio , @drinklmnt , @drinkag1 , and @deliverance.elixir If you’re interested in joining next year—February 2027,
DM me. #BigSkySkiWeek #HATCHExperience #FutureInTheMountains #RelationshipEngine #MountainCulture #ConveneDifferently #SharedFuture

Big Sky Ski Week is a creation by @hubculture @hatchexperience and @futurehorizon.to which brings people together to ski, network and learn in the vast alpine expanse of Montana. The second edition was wonderful, bringing participants back to deepen relationships and introducing new guests and ideas. From free form lunches and evening parties to heated panels on nature and geopolitics to an in depth lesson on Yellowstone and the tree of life, this year served up a perfect combination of adrenaline on the slopes and thoughtfulness in the notes. Speaking of notes, the musical performances and performance culture of Big Sky add the perfect extras for a fun week. Thanks to our cohosts @yarrowk and @ohhileta and the 60+ skiers that made this a week to remember. @hubculture
