“We gave the artists a pair of shoes and told them to just dala. That’s what MAMOQ is about. We’re not going to give you a theme and we’re not going to give you an outline. You need to do what you need to do.” “If it’s a minimal design, cool. If it’s a hectic, flamboyant design, do it. Just MAMOQ it.” The VERVE team has been wanting to branch out to the fringe of the Cape Town culture, so when a B-voting event came across our feed we were immediately interested. When trying to find out who was behind the event though, all we found was @graassiecpt , and a mysterious feed named @whatismamoq . We reached out for a conversation and ended up meeting @broncraddock and @yaaseencader , co-founders of MAMOQ, who told us their story and the story behind the MENSE event - an event curated to subvert the expectations and pretentiousness of the culture, and go back the roots of who we are.
