The body physically back here while the mind slowly wandered back into 躺平 life. Not sure if this is a sculpture or just a trace of how we were in this month of April.

🍡Dango 2.0, this time with faces
Learnt how to sculpt faces on clay, so I went back to a familiar form and tried again. Keeping the same simple shapes, but focusing on how small changes like the eyes, mouth, and spacing can shift the whole expression.
Dango 1.0 was made in Tokoname, where the wood firing did most of the work. The textures and finishes were left to the fire. This time, it is more hands-on, building the character from the start.
Same idea, different learning. Less about letting the fire decide, more about understanding how to shape what I see. Now, they hold expressions just like me 🙄

April milestone: a trip to the city of ceramics to learn from @zhaopi86 .
Learned to make bigger sculptures, use underglaze, and single fire wet clay - so illegal but worked! Met new people in their 躺平 season.
Each day started with a twenty-minute walk to the studio, passing through the everyday rhythm of the neighbourhood. At the studio, the resident doggos greeted us with aggressively wagging tails. Sometimes during the day, you knew treat time was coming when you hear: “柠檬坐下!百万握手!”
The rest of us: pinch clay, lunch, clay, milk tea, repeat.
Somewhere in that loop, you started to understand how things ran here. Apparently, our classmates weren’t considered 卷 because they didn’t work past midnight, only until 11:59pm (???). You didn’t have to reclaim clay, load and unload kilns, or even watch the firing as long as you could pay.
The two weeks here were a strange kind of ease, everything felt both structured and loosely held at the same time. It was a good time. Just not the squat toilets.

It’s a ceramic bowl with handle. It’s a ceramic water scoop. Right now it’s a vegetable arrangement. Later it’s a salad bowl. It contains multitudes. 😌

Formerly confused as speaker horns or toy phones, these lamps that were wood-fired in Tokoname have found their true calling - spreading light and confusion. ✨

A pair of tea bowls made by mixing, stacking, squashing, and slicing coloured clay, basically letting the clay have a bit of fun before it becomes serious about holding tea.
They’re siblings, each with its own little quirks. Best enjoyed with warm matcha, slow sips, and a casual spin in the hand to admire the bits the clay decided to show off.
They will be available in the good company of
