Inside Wu Yee’s Lok Yuen Campus on Clay Street — one of 12 early learning centers serving families across San Francisco. Wu Yee’s work goes beyond early education. Their programs support the whole family, offering resources, care, and guidance that help children and caregivers thrive together. It’s a powerful reminder that strong communities are built by investing early and showing up consistently. San Francisco’s early learning system continues to show progress, reflecting strong investment and coordination across the city. But that progress is not yet reaching all children equally. As Wu Yee CEO Mark Ryle shares, the real distinction is between access and impact. At Wu Yee Children’s Services, we focus on what happens once families are connected, providing culturally responsive, language-accessible, and comprehensive supports from the start. Access opens the door, but what matters most is what happens next - making sure every child has the equitable support they need to learn, grow, and thrive.

This past weekend, families came together at Gordon J. Lau Elementary for AAPI Families Wonderfest, a Celebrating Young Children event cohosted by @apa_family_support_services , @wuyeesf , and @gummoonsf . Cultural performances, face painting, arts and crafts, sunflower planting, a family dance-along, and even an ice cream truck made for a full and festive morning. Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us and to all the organizations who brought it to life. Happy AAPI Heritage Month! #CelebratingYoungChildren #AAPIHeritageMonth #SanFrancisco #Chinatown #FamilyFun

We’re officially one month away from Bayview Children’s Day on June 13 at the Southeast Community Center! 🎉 Wu Yee Children's Services' 9th Annual Bayview Children’s Day is a free, family-centered celebration that gathers children, caregivers, and neighbors in the heart of San Francisco’s Bayview neighborhood for a day of play, learning, and connection. Through hands-on activities, music, and access to trusted community resources, the event creates a space where families can come together, children can explore, and community can grow. A big thank you to all of our sponsors for helping to make this special day possible for hundreds of children and families in San Francisco. Your support helps create a joyful celebration filled with learning, connection, resources, and fun for our community, and we can’t wait to celebrate together next month!

In honor of CalFresh Awareness Month, Wu Yee Children's Services' Joy Lok Family Resource Center was invited to the CalFresh Partnership Appreciation Luncheon to celebrate the community organizations supporting CalFresh outreach and applications across San Francisco. For more than a decade, Joy Lok Family Resource Center has partnered with the SF-Marin Food Bank to provide culturally and linguistically responsive CalFresh support in community spaces. Together, this collaboration has helped families access critical benefits, led to one of the highest application approval rates, and brought weekly on-site support from Human Services Agency Eligibility Workers. We’re grateful to be part of this collective effort to expand food access and support families in our community. Joy Lok staff are available by appointment to answer CalFresh questions and provide 1:1 application support. To learn more about Joy Lok go to wuyee.org/for-families/joy-lok/

Their presentation highlighted the importance of comprehensive support systems, equity-centered design strategies, the different IRISE pathways, and the power of community connections and partnerships in building a stronger, more accessible ECE workforce. This week at Wu Yee Children’s Services, we celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week, honoring the dedication, care, and skill our teachers bring to their classrooms every day. Hear from Bonnie Duncan, Center Manager of our Southeast Learning Center, as she shares what makes teachers so special. Because we know how critical it is for young children to learn from diverse, empathetic, and highly skilled educators, we’re committed to supporting our teachers and community through ongoing professional development and pathways into early childhood education careers.

In honor of AAPI Heritage Month, we recognize our roots in Chinatown and the community that shaped us. Wu Yee Children’s Services, meaning “protector of children” in Cantonese, opened its first child care center, Lok Yuen (meaning “happy garden” or “paradise” in Cantonese) in 1977 and now operates 12 Early Learning Centers across San Francisco. While our staff represents many backgrounds, we’re proud to honor our AAPI heritage and uplift the diverse team that continues to carry our mission forward every day.
