At Gum Moon AWRC, we recently hosted a 4-part AI workshop series for 25 participants because we believe our community deserves to grow with the world around us, not be left behind by it.
Living in San Francisco, surrounded by innovation and tech, we feel it is especially important to make sure our most vulnerable and often marginalized communities also have access to the knowledge and resources shaping everyday life.
Through this workshop series, participants were introduced to popular tools like ChatGPT, Doubao, and CapCut. Across the four sessions, they explored how AI is becoming part of daily life and gained a better understanding of how these tools can be used in practical, meaningful ways.
It was inspiring to see so much curiosity, engagement, and openness to learning. As technology continues to evolve, we are proud to help make sure our community evolves with it.

🐣🌸 What a joyful Easter celebration with our Chinatown, Richmond, and Sunset families!
On 3/24 at Lafayette Park, Gum Moon welcomed 90 families for a fun-filled Easter Egg Hunt full of laughter, community, and special moments. Children had a wonderful time searching for eggs, meeting the Easter Bunny, and enjoying the Giant Bubbles experience. We also shared lunch together and gave out raffle prizes for the kids.
Thank you to all the families who joined us and helped make the day so memorable. We love creating opportunities for our community to come together and celebrate joy, connection, and childhood wonder. 💛

Happy Lunar New Year from all of us at Gum Moon! 🧧✨ To celebrate, our team gifted special Treasure Pots to families in Gum Moon’s programs.
These Treasure Pots symbolize wealth, health, and abundance, and they carry our warmest wishes for every family in our community. Our families loved them, and we’re so grateful to make this moment a little brighter together. ❤️
A heartfelt thank you to Karen Woo for sponsoring the giveaway, and Far East Cafe for preparing the Treasure Pots.
Gum Moon AFSC (Richmond) showed up strong at the Lunar New Year Good Luck Parade & Night Market (2/5/26) with 50 community members marching together in the parade! 🧧🐉
At our booth, families stayed busy (and smiling) with Spin the Wheel, pinwheel crafts, games, basketball, bean toss, ring toss, Legos, and plenty of bubbles. ✨🎈
It was such a joyful night of connection, laughter, and celebrating Lunar New Year as one community. Thank you to everyone who came out and made it special!! We’re so grateful to celebrate with you! ❤️

🧧✨ Lunar New Year Grocery Bag Giveaway (2/6) ✨🧧
Last weekend, Gum Moon celebrated the joy of Chinese New Year with our community through a Lunar New Year Grocery Bag Giveaway... and our hearts are so full. 💛
We were able to give out 120 festive goodies bags, filled with traditional foods to help families welcome the New Year with warmth, dignity, and celebration. For many of our neighbors in marginalized communities, a grocery bag isn’t “just food”: it’s relief, care, and a reminder that they’re not alone as we prepare to step into a new year together.
A huge thank you to the incredible Rotary Club volunteers who helped us pack every single bag with love and teamwork. 🙌
We’re also grateful for the support from Susan Chan (California Legislative Assembly), who joined us on behalf of Assemblymember Matt Haney to help pass out goodies to our families and show meaningful community support. 🤝
From all of us at Gum Moon: Happy Lunar New Year! 新年快樂 🐍❤️
May your year be filled with health, abundance, and moments that feel like home.

In times that can feel heavy and uncertain, it’s especially meaningful to share the stories that remind us what community care looks like in action. 💛
AFSC Richmond Heroes and Helpers Event
亞裔家庭互助中心列治文區英雄與助手活動
Some of our children from our year-round programs at the Asian Family Support Center (Richmond Site) attended the Heroes and Helpers event hosted by the San Francisco Police Department. Each child was paired with an SFPD team member and went shopping at Target to choose a special gift—either for themselves or for someone they care about—learning the values of sharing, gratitude, and giving along the way. 🎁✨
Many parents shared their heartfelt appreciation, telling us this experience brought their children a warm and joy-filled Holiday.

Happy 2026, Gum Moon community! 🏮✨
We’re stepping into the new year with so much gratitude for the joy and connection you create together. Not long ago, our Friendship Group brought Chinatown parents together to celebrate Winter Solstice in the most meaningful way: by making traditional savory TangYuan side by side. 🥣💛
Moments like these are why Gum Moon exists: to champion community, culture, and belonging, and to help our people self-organize the gatherings that matter most.
Have an idea for a meetup, celebration, or activity you’d love to see, volunteer (or lead)? Tell us! We’re here to support. 🙌
Here’s to 2026: a year of more community-led moments, more shared traditions, and a whole lot more memories. 🎊

✨ A little jewel in San Francisco’s Chinatown ✨Tucked away on Washington Street is Gum Moon Women’s Residence, a historic treasure designed by legendary architect Julia Morgan—the first woman licensed as an architect in California.
🏮 Gum Moon means “Golden Door” in Chinese, a powerful symbol of refuge, dignity, and new beginnings. Built after the 1906 earthquake (completed in 1911), this space has offered safety and hope for generations.
💛 Today, Gum Moon provides housing for 30 women impacted by domestic violence and human trafficking, along with a family resource center supporting healing, stability, and empowerment. History, beauty, and purpose—still opening a golden door in San Francisco.

🎁 185 gifts. ~100 families. One big holiday moment of joy. 🎄
On December 20, Gum Moon hosted a joyful Christmas Party & Holiday Luncheon with a Polynesian theme at Far East Café. We were honored to welcome nearly 100 families to celebrate the season with us.
What made the day unforgettable:
🤝 Sponsored with love
A huge thank you to Bill and Darlene Lock and the San Francisco Department of Early Childhood for sponsoring this event. Because of their support, we distributed many many presents, ensuring every child went home with a special gift. 🎁
We also shared lunch together to mark this wonderful time of year.
🌟 Kids in the spotlight
Our children took the stage for joyful performances that lit up the room.
💃 Dance, connection, and fun
The Rahiti Polynesian Dance Group led a beautiful, interactive Hawaiian dance, and even got families up on their feet learning the moves!
🎅 The grand finale
We wrapped up with a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, who handed out gifts and took photos with everyone.
Thank you to everyone who helped create a day full of holiday magic for our families. ❤️✨
📸 Thank you Horatio Jung for capturing the moment!🥳

🎄✨ Merry Christmas from Gum Moon ✨🎄
To our families, neighbors, partners, donors, and volunteers: Thank you for being part of Gum Moon’s community this year. 💛
In 2025, we created meaningful impact across San Francisco through education, community events, holiday gatherings, and everyday support for women, children, and families. Your support helped make that possible.
Here are a few reflections we’re carrying into the holidays:
💬 Tina (Our Teacher):
“Every child’s growth reminded me why I love what we do.”
💬 Clarissa (Our Board Member):
“My favorite Gum Moon moments includes memories of our annual gala, Thanksgiving & Holiday luncheons sponsored by Bill & Darlene Lock (Bill is on our board of directors) and a Christmas gifts event led by our staff Cindy Choy, Flora Chen and Yvonne Lei along with sponsoring partners such as the Lions Club and CAAGE (Coalition of Asian American Government Employees).”
💬 Kathleen (Our Marketing Lead):
“My favorite Gum Moon moment in 2025 is the Heart of the Richmond summer block party series. It is such a vibrant community event that took so many community organizers to put together and it was so much fun. It highlights how far Gum Moon’s impact get.”
💬 From Gum Moon team:
« We wish you a heartfelt holiday filled with warmth, joy, and community. « 🎁✨
