Congratulations to Ko Sasaki on winning the Tadahiko Hayashi Award!
I had the honor of designing the book "XEPCOH: Kherson—Nights Under the Missiles," which compiles his award-winning project in Ukraine. Despite the ongoing tension on the ground, I hope that through Ko’s lens, the daily lives of the people there will reach as many people as possible.

This morning, I received a thoughtful message from Shu Watanabe, the artist behind THE LAST SUMMIT. With all 69 copies of the artist book now in new hands, his note felt like a quiet milestone.
He wrote to thank me for guiding the process - from curation and the exhibition to supporting the sales - and reflected on how grateful he was to have had the chance to create and present an artist book, especially as someone who does not identify as a photographer. He described how this book brought him encounters and experiences he could not have imagined otherwise.
Since 2021, he has remained steadfast, building careful dialogue with people who truly engage with books. Without rushing, he gave the work the time it needed to rise into a single volume. The path he followed - printing and binding with his own hands, checking each step as he went - has settled into the book's very texture.
THE LAST SUMMIT traces the footsteps of his father, who died after a fatal fall in the mountains. It is also a book in which Shu himself set out toward the summit his father once aimed for, seeking to stand before the same view - to know his father through the experience of climbing. The photographs and fragments never over-explain; they move with the rhythm of walking, brushing quietly against layers of memory. Turning the pages can feel like moving forward - pausing, confirming, continuing.
The candor and gratitude in Shu's message brought me back to where this book began, and reminded me that the book's most decisive moment may be this: it has now passed into other hands, to be read and lived with in times and places beyond its maker.
I am grateful, in return, for the chance to work with someone who responds with such integrity - and for the time we shared through this process. To take time, to think, to make, and then to let the work go: when a person truly trusts that process, a new landscape eventually opens.
And now, it seems a new period of facing the next work has already begun within him. The time spent considering a next project is also part of making. I look forward to seeing what form his thinking will take as it rises into the world.

Time at TABF is drawing to a close.
Today was marked by the presence of visitors from many places — New York, Canada, and beyond — each bringing distinct trajectories into the space.
A moment lingered with particular clarity: a visitor stood absorbed in a book addressing the lives of Kurds in Japan. When approached, the response came simply — “I’m Kurdish as well.”
Their parents had migrated to Germany, where they now live, and through this brief encounter with a book, they discovered that people with similar circumstances exist here too.
A short pause before a single book became an opening — one that quietly crossed borders, geographies, and lived realities.
Extended conversations also unfolded around artificial intelligence and conceptual practices. Beyond the fair’s general intensity, this booth became a site where questions circulated, language was tested, silences were held — and time itself began to intersect with increasing density through dialogue.
The books are not merely placed on the table; they continue to operate as mediators, generating encounters and opening relational space.
On the final day, the table will be hosted by:
Shu Watanabe / Kazuya Urakawa / Yusuke Takagi / Maki Hayashida / Hajime Kimura / Yuri Goto / Sachiko Saito / Kenji Chiga / Yoshikatsu Fujii
Visitors are warmly invited to enter this space where books, people, words, and silences momentarily converge — and to add their own time to what unfolds.

PHOTOBOOK AS OBJECT / PHOTOBOOK WHO CARES
TABF has finally begun.
The PHOTOBOOK AS OBJECT / PHOTOBOOK WHO CARES booth is less a sales stand than a shared space – over the next few days, different artists will take turns at the table, bringing their own time and presence to the same constellation of books.
As it was a weekday, today unfolded at a gentle pace, but we are deeply grateful to everyone who picked up the artist books and spent a moment with them. These are not merely finished objects; each carries the traces of long working hours, doubt, and trial and error before finding its place on this table.
Throughout the fair, participating artists will be at the booth in rotation, so please feel free to stop by, speak with them, and ask about how each work has come into being.
Tomorrow, Friday the 12th, from 11:00 to 18:00, the table will be hosted by:
Shu Watanabe / Tomohiro Sato / Manami Uetake / Maki Hayashida / Hajime Kimura / Yuri Goto / Sachiko Saito / Kenji Chiga / Kanta Nomura
We hope you’ll visit this small corner where books, people, and time quietly intersect.
