At our second #aroadofherown Own @redlightlit show, we ventured to Joshua Tree and @jenniferlewiswrites had the brilliant idea of sharing why I wrote this book.
The women who came up to me afterwards all mentioned it, and then I got to learn their own fascinating, curiosity-leading stories. I heard about one badass gal motocross riding into their 60s and learning how to play the bass at 70ā¦heard about driving an 18 wheeler for decades amidst countless dudes on the roadā¦I heard about another saving up for a trailer and driving cross country until the right place felt right. I got book recs about women adventurers and honestly those chats were my fave part of the night. š«¶š¼
As I read this, it made me realize that not everyone in every room may resonate with this book. But the oneās who doā¦well those are usually the badass folks I want to grab a drink with and hear all about their winding lives š
Many more JTree highlights to come but hereās a starter šµšļø
When I look to how to write prose with heart, lyricism, and the honest, astute eyes of a poet, I think of Toni Mirosevich. Sheās always one of the top people I teach in my classes or go to for inspiration. So, needless to say hearing her thoughts about A Road of Her Own meant a lot ššš§”
Come celebrate with me at our upcoming shows:

Tonight, weāll be projecting landscapes by photographer and creative director Kate Shearer ā a fitting visual pairing, as Kate also shot the cover image for @writeon_kim ās new novel, A Road of Her Own.
Kateās photographs move between landscape, portraiture, stillness, and motion ā images shaped by atmosphere, light, and an intuitive sense of place.
Tonightās selection features previously unseen personal work from the past few years, tracing her evolving eye through landscapes, road imagery, and the quiet, charged beauty of the Mojave.
Kate has photographed so many incredible places and people, and being photographed by her is an empowering, joyful experience. Follow her work here: @kateshearerstudio šø
Join us tonight at 7 PM in Joshua Tree for @homesteadsessions DESERT HIGH. DM for address.

This Saturday marked the start of my book tour for my debut novel #ARoadofHerOwn with @redlightlit and my goodness when I say my heart and soul are still ballooning with absolute gratitude and joy, I sure mean it. I still close my eyes and think of the moments where I looked out and saw all of your beautiful facesāeach every person someone I genuinely care aboutāsqueezed in with standing room only and making me feel so loved and supported.
To write a book over a decade is one thing but to have a room full of people who are genuinely cheering you on in something that means SO much to youā¦well thatās something you just canāt buy.
Even happier you all got to hear my friends and colleagues slay their own writing on stage! Major thanks to the performers who made the night success a moving hit!
Also shout out to Nashville for giving me the sauciest cowboy boots a woman could ask for that Iām gonna rock at every reading like theyāre my lucky red slippers šŖ
Thank you to everyone who showed up at @lilleaeske More events in Santa Cruz to come!
Next up? Joshua Tree Thurs 5/14 with @homesteadsessions and @redlightlit 7pm DM for our secret venue āØ

Letās celebrate!
Another excerpt from The Heart & Mind Exhibit performance with @thomassagepedersen This one was highlighting the phase of āIām all in Love.ā Two feet in. Letās lean into it all, the good and bad, the growth and the flow, the kind weāre lucky to know and, in true regenerative heart fashion, can always have around the bend.
May this bring your heart the spring bloom vibes it deserves šš„°
I recently performed a 45-min set (my longest ever) for The Heart & Mind Exhibig put on by @firstfridaysantacruz where I took people on an emotional journey of what it feels like to have a relentlessly regenerative heart.
We went stage by stage, where I performed a poem or song I wrote while in a particular stage of heart expansion or contraction.
@thomassagepedersen and I created an experience where strangers came and went through downtown Santa Cruzās Heart & Mind exhibit.
It was fascainting to see what pieces made people linger for a few tracks, which they decided to leave on, and the best of all, who decided to plop themselves down on the floor and stay for the entire experience.
I figured people would feel things, but I didnāt expect to see what unfolded. As we entered the phase of Two Feet in Love, I saw peopleās faces change. Some closed their eyes and softened as they soaked up the words. Another looked to the floor with a bit of heaviness. One start tearing up. Then, as we transitioned to Grief, something very humbly occurred: everyone present for the show started crying. Some were quiet tears rolling down their cheeks. Others folded over themselves, covering their faces with their palms. Afterwards, a few people came up and asked to take photos of the Grief poem particularly. I had never experienced seeing my poetry move people that way. It made me feel so connected to every person in that room.
But I realized it wasnāt just my words; it was the emotion it hit. Grief, something we all know but donāt know what to do with, seemed to be a chord people needed to strum. So, I thought Iād share a couple pieces.
First up, Grief: Lessons from a First Timer.
Next up? Two Feet in Love. š«šŖ·š±š» #poetry #poetrymonth
Weāre one week out from Book Launch day and itās finally starting to hit me that A Road of Her Own is about to be in your hands. Book tour copies just arrived today and man, it feels a bit indescribable seeing this man copies of something I made.
Lifeās a sweet little tripā¦š #aroadofherown #redlightlitpress #debutnovel #womensolotravel #vanlife
If thereās one thing Iāve learned in life itās how to live and love with a Relentlessly Regenerative Heart. And tomorrow Iāll be taking folks on a journey from what it feels like to go from a solo silky cacoon to the many micro stages of falling in love, embracing grief, finding your new era feet, and stepping into loving curiosity again.
Come join me as I share spoken word, a few songs, and @thomassagepedersen will be backing me on the guitar with his melodic amazingness āØ
Itāll be a 30 min experience from 7ish-7:30 and then weāll have a little writing exercise for those who want to write their poems after soaking up all the art in this beautiful exhibit.
Itās the final Sat of the exhibit, so come enjoy what @firstfridaysantacruz has created ā¤ļø Hope to see you there!
