Considering that my year started with me losing most of my work from 2024, I would’ve never guessed that 2025 would be my best year (so far) for production. Happy 5th Anniversary to the exclamation point on my "Birth Chart" beat tape series, "ASCENDANT"! This album was created within the first half of the pandemic, a time that was honestly a silver lining in a dark cloud for me (though I was still dealing with the same weight & anxiety as everyone else at the time), because I got to sit, be in my own thoughts and create with no distractions...sometimes until 5 or 6am the next morning 😂
This album also means a lot to me because it allowed me to finally make peace with the passing of my grandmother (the beautiful lady on the back cover) who passed 10 years prior to the pandemic. She finally appeared to me in a dream and gave me a sign that everything was okay after years of having a recurring dream of seeing her with her back facing me and trying to get to her, but never succeeding. This album was me capturing that feeling.
I want to thank my good sis @tekowalakica , and my guys @deepseabattles , @elijahfox & @basscomputer for helping me make this album my best to date! And I want to thank everyone who streamed or bought the album, your support meant & still means everything to me. Peace & love to my guy @whoisdonsmith for allowing me to contribute to this amazing project. I bet a lot of y’all didn’t know that I was a DJ before I was a producer. I taught myself how to scratch by listening to tracks created by the likes of DJ Premier, Pete Rock, The X-Ecutioners and DJ Flash. I feel like over the years, scratch hooks have become less & less of a thing in Hip-Hop, so I definitely welcomed the chance to help bring em back when donSMITH asked me to do this and “WOKE UP HUNGRY”. It’s good to know I still got it, and I hope y’all enjoy it as well!
