second painting! 🥲 also a second attempt at this painting but i’m glad i decided to redo it! 🫩 visited my grandma’s place a short while after his death to realise that his existence was partially immortalised by his pee tray wrecking the balcony (his pee seeped through and removed the white paint covering the original flooring). and there was a part of me that hoped for it to still be there. it was eventually covered up and i had somehow written down “now i have to make room to accommodate for your loss and unfortunately, i am able to.” and when grief is as mercurial as memory, i had more conviction to remember him in this hapless green haze. this was part of ‘arrhythmias’ 31/07 - 03/08, Safehouse 1, 139 Copeland Rd, London SE15 3SN @starch.sg

it’s been a while since i’ve posted and it’s also been a while since i was part of this wonderful exhibition with such sweethearts 🥹 i still have so much to say and people to thank so i will reserve that for a later post. but i can’t not mention @kickthatmo i love you always 💕 i never gave myself the chance to process grief despite my occasional encounters with it. even with these confrontations, i have yet to understand grief’s parameters and i probably never will. loss gives way to a bittersweet awareness of presence (once inherent, now staggering). and the love i grew so used to giving becomes daunting overnight. this is part of my attempt to navigate the volatility of grief. (and maybe, its erratic parameters i so adamantly want to grasp will end up resembling my cupped hands) part of ‘arrhythmias’ 31/07 - 03/08, Safehouse 1, 139 Copeland Rd, London SE15 3SN @starch.sg 3rd slide: by photographer!@kickthatmo also starsky looks like that plastic bag if you close your eyes (that was his favourite spot whenever my aunty was in the toilet 😔)

Sarishna Nair (b. 1999, Singapore) is an artist whose primary practice has always revolved around her interest in faces and their transitional characteristics. Having acknowledged the conditions of change, she is welcoming mutability into her artistic concerns and has embraced the transience of her focus. Her recent explorations concentrate on ephemeral states that resist containment, an attempt to capture the mercurial yet profound encounters of otherwise momentary flickers of becoming. Sarishna will be part of arrhythmias opening on the 31st of July and will be running until the 3rd of August. The show is happening at Safehouse 1, 139 Copeland Road, SE15 3SN. Our PV will be happening on the 1st of August 2025 from 6 - 9 pm.

0: the fool sat down with this card from various decks for nearly a month to meditate on its meaning and its signficance to come up with this personal interpretation 😰 the fool often talks about a journey that deviates from an already comfortable environment. but a space that one has become used to can also be comforting in its constancy. and it is with that knowledge that we make a decision to step out and satiate our curiosity. monotony can only do so much till we realise that stability does not support a constant evolution of ourselves. once you are on that path equipped with skills of a past you are willing to leave, you are met with a stranger place with stranger devices and stranger skills. one that you would not have been able to encounter if not for that first step out of warmth grown used to. you are met with dangers and (in the smith-waite tarot deck the fool does not realise the cliff that they are walking off - naivete). it could be seen as a plummet into the unknown, one that is riddled with obstacles and lessons. i have too mcuh to say goodnigjy #gouache #gouachepainting #tarot #tarotcards
