Last Friday at First Fridays in the Exchange, Red River Creative Communications student and Plume Winnipeg intern Maya Shank asked a few people, "what are you reading?"

🌅 MORNING LIGHT - APRIL 22, 2026 🌅
☀️🎨 The Leaf at @assiniboine_park is embracing the new season with “The Kaleidoscope of Spring”, an exhibition that features brightly-coloured flowers like hibiscuses and tulips alongside a kaleidoscope installation that puts the plants in a different light. Gardner Euguenia Druyet Zoubareva told us more about the role that light plays for the plants in the exhibition.
☀️🖌️ The 11th annual Writes of Spring poetry competition has chosen the twelve winners who wrote original works based on this year’s theme, “land and sea”. Organizer Ariel Gordon (@janedayreader ) joined us to tell us more about how literal and liberal the poets were with the theme.

This SUNDAY APRIL 26, at 2:00pm please stop by McNally Robinson Booksellers (Grant Park Mall location) to enjoy the "Writes of Spring"!
In recognition of National Poetry Month, hosts Ariel Gordon and Melanie Brannagan Fredericksen welcome 12 local poets who will share their work in a free public poetry reading event.
Thanks to @janedayreader@winnipegfreepress and of course @mcnallyrobinson for making this lovely event happen for the 11th year in a row.
Plume Winnipeg is proud to support this program ❤️
