May 15 marks International Day of Families. This year’s theme, Families, Inequalities and Child Well-Being, highlights the importance of supporting families and addressing the challenges that affect children’s futures.
The Winnipeg Foundation is committed to investing in programs that support families, including the For Every Family initiative, and addressing root causes to help improve outcomes for children exiting the child welfare system.

We are thankful for Manitoba's generosity. Every day, we see Manitobans show up to support their community by volunteering their time, providing hands-on support, and making a gift to local charities. Manitoba continues to be the most generous province, and it's what makes our home so special.

Congratulations to our Board Chair, Diane Roussin, on receiving the 2026 Order of Manitoba, the province’s highest honour.
Diane is an exemplary community champion and one of Manitoba’s most influential Indigenous leaders. Through her leadership with The Winnipeg Boldness Project, she has advanced Indigenous-led, community-driven solutions that support children, youth and families in Point Douglas to thrive.
For more than two decades, Diane’s work has been grounded in Indigenous knowledge, worldviews and deep respect for community voice. Her leadership continues to restore agency, dignity, and wellness while creating new possibilities for children and families to experience well-being in all aspects of life: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.

For Genaro Guevarra, caring for someone with dementia means supporting not only the individual but their loved ones, their daily routines, and their wider community.
That belief inspired him to start Morning Breeze HealthCare during the pandemic. More recently, it led him to create the Morning Breeze Endowment Fund at The Winnipeg Foundation.

Strengthening pathways toward Truth and Reconciliation is a vital priority for The Winnipeg Foundation. We support initiatives that advance this work through donors who have established endowment funds supporting reconciliation, and through our granting, which included a $5 million lead gift in 2024 to the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation, which helped fund a permanent space for the organization.
This commitment is reflected across our organization as part of a broader focus on equity and inclusion in our granting, donor stewardship, partnerships, and internal culture. We believe in a community where life flourishes for all, and we are #ForGoodForever.
We believe in a Winnipeg where community life flourishes for everyone. Through our Community Fund, we support local charities each year across our grant streams.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, that support keeps growing, strengthening the Community Fund as Winnipeg’s Forever Fund.

Red Dress Day honours Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit+ people, as well as survivors and their families. It is a day of remembrance for the lives lost and forever changed, and a call to end the ongoing violence faced by Indigenous communities.
The movement began with Manitoba Métis artist Jaime Black, who installed red dresses in public spaces as powerful symbols of loss, absence, and resilience. These empty dresses serve as a visual reminder that this crisis continues.

The Honourable Murray Sinclair dedicated his life to advocating for the voices of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis. He defended people's rights and created pathways towards reconciliation.
Sinclair was the first Indigenous judge appointed to the Court of King’s Bench, Manitoba’s highest trial court. His leadership in Indigenous justice eventually led to his role as chief commissioner of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada. The Commission’s final report included 94 Calls to Action, setting a path toward transforming relationships with Indigenous Peoples.
It was recently announced that a Winnipeg school will be renamed as École Mazina-Giizhik, in honour of Sinclair’s spirit name. We recognize the significance of this moment and reflect on the enduring impact of his work and legacy.
