Alles, was Odem hat, lobe den Herrn, halleluja! š
In the summer of 2024, I went on a train trip throughout eastern Germany and Czechia, making a musical pilgrimage through libraries, museums, churches, and concert halls that I had long wanted to visit in person.
At the Mendelssohn House in Leipzig and its archives, I specifically looked for records of the composerās symphonic cantata Lobgesang, which I recently began studying for a concert series we had been planning with my two choirs, a grand celebration of their anniversaries.
Deeply inspiring was my visit to the Thomaskirche and the famous Thomanerchor, where the piece was premiered in 1840, a visit I still often reflect on.
What was a long journey of intense personal and artistic discovery took me to many places along a path toward understanding Mendelssohnās music and the performance practice of his time.
My deep thanks go to the archives of the Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Mendelssohn House, and the City Archive of Leipzig for their help in my research, and to my teachers Ivan Meylemans and Kurt Bikkembergs for their invaluable advice.
This all culminated in the concerts of the past weekend with our dear
@koinonia.orchestraofeurope , the choirs Helicante and Omnia Cantica, and incredible soloists
@emma.posman ,
@lara_cannaert ,
@very_timothy , and
@lucascortoos (in Mozarts krƶnungsmesse).
So grateful to all who were part of this wonderful celebration šš¼ā¤ļø
We will continue this journey in 2026 with performances of Bach cantatas with Koinonia and choir, following deeper the same musical lineage, rooted in this powerful tradition of community and love.
