Unexpected SW reception this sunday morning that sounds surprisingly musical, dual modulated signals, with soothing white noise. Klirrfaktormesser for good measure, using it more as an amplifier than as a harmonic distortion meter. A setup you can build upon. Recorded a good hour of this for my forthcoming radio releases.

Working on new RF designs for field recordists. Kiki now thinks she is a portal.🐈 📡
Workshop times with kiki are always a pleasure, did a lot of building the past weeks and we got new microphones and fluffy windfilters up in the webshop 🙏!

📹✨workshop sonoro c/ @wouter.jaspers , nas hortas do Monte da Ervilha 🫛. O sr. Ernesto predispôs-se amavelmente a “mostrar isto a esta gente” antes que vire tudo um continente 🛒
Last saturday, on invitation by @julianajulieta & @fungoflorestafuturos , we wandered through the urban wasteland of Monte da Ervilha, listening to the echoes of human life bouncing off the high rise developments and to the rustle of leaves, the radio hum of hidden life in the distance, the quiet rhythm of our own footsteps.
Thank you to everyone who joined the soundwalk and shared their attention, curiosity, and open ears. Together we tuned in to an acoustic landscape shaped by wind, soil, branches, and most of all: people; a reminder that listening is a way of belonging.
Here are some snapshots from our afternoon!
Microphones are by @sonicartefacts
Thanks @sonoscopia for lending me the hydrophone. Thanks to @1c.1c.1c for the nice photos!

Sound on! -- Wanted to do a little video showing all the tools I use while (field) recording and radio sniffing around the world. Since today I have a workshop planned at @fungoflorestafuturos it was a good time to get everything out of the suitcase and do a little update. Let me know which machines you would like to know more about or would like to hear in action!

🎧🌿 Wouter Jaspers is an electro-acoustic sound artist, composer, and (electronic) instrument designer making use of his busy tour schedule to amass a field recording and noise archive where the narrative qualities of sound become catalysts for dark musical chasms and ear-splitting adventures. Active on the fringes of the electronic underground for over 20 years, Jaspers records and performs music under his own name, but also as Franz Fjödor, Das Gezicht, A Cryptic Mantra and many others. His focus the past five years has been on composing and performing with raw radio waves and fieldrecordings, for which he developes his own instruments and workflow.
🥾Soundwalk at Monte da Ervilha:
This soundwalk invites participants to slow down and listen with the forest. Through guided attention, simple listening tools, and moments of silence, we will explore Monte da Ervilha as a living acoustic environment, shaped by human and more-than-human presence. Rather than collecting sounds, the walk focuses on tuning perception: listening with the body, noticing subtle vibrations, rhythms, and resonances that often go unheard. The session will move between walking, stopping, and shared listening, creating space to reflect on how sound connects us to place, material, and ecology. No previous experience is needed, only curiosity and a willingness to listen.

Over the last five years, @wouter.jaspers has focused on crafting experimental music using raw radio frequencies as his primary sound source. Alway in flux, never the same, and that's the challenge!
Recently, he toured across Mexico, performing with the upcoming Sonic Artefacts Performance Receiver, a device designed to capture and demodulate radio signals in multiple ways, making them easy to manipulate for live performance and sound design.
Consider this a small teaser; more details about the Performance Receiver will appear on the Sonic Artefacts channels soon, ahead of its official release later this year.
One of Sonic Artefacts’ core goals is to open up the entire electromagnetic spectrum as creative territory for artists and experimenters. Following our products like the Cortiça microphones, electromagnetic pickups, and specialized antennae, the next focus lies in exploring the radio spectrum itself.
STAY TUNED :)
Had a wonderful time on tour in Mexico; played 6 shows in cdmx, cuarnavaca and Tepoztlan, recorded a lot of new material. A big thanks to all my Mexican friends, old and new, for making it a massive success! ❤️
It's great to be back in Mexico this month to perform and record new works of music. I have been exploring new ways of reception for my all-radio setup using minerals and metallic rocks and have updated the analog receivers to be even more sensitive. I spent my morning going through all the stations, marking them down and saving them for the upcoming gigs! Happy to be staying in a tall building, such great reception 📻!

The all-analog radio rig. As the year winds down, I’ve been digging through my archive (the quiet ritual of sorting cables, photos, videos, folders, half-finished ideas) and stumbled on a small clip from my performance at @radionopal for @volta_sesiones . It brought me right back into that room, where the whole set was built from raw radiowaves and whatever electromagnetic murmurs were drifting through the space. No instruments, no samples, just the invisible noise around us taking shape for a moment, humming with everything that made the year strange and beautiful. I’ll be back in Mexico for performances in February, where I hope to unfold my antennae and receive more unexpected signals! #experimentalmusic #radioart #noisemusic
