June 3rd 2026 at 5PM in the Simmons Auditorium, the STUDIO's Associate Director Dr. Harrison Apple will deliver the 2026 @carnegiemellon Pride Month Keynote Lecture followed by a discussion and Q&A moderated by their collaborator in culture and history @sweet_thunda Bekezela Mguni of the @blackunicornlibraryproject
Dr. Apple will talk about their research to highlight community knowledge about LGBTQ social history in Pittsburgh and its transformation into a dynamic and experimental community archivist practice, The Pittsburgh Queer History Project.
Apple began their life in Pittsburgh at Carnegie Mellon as a @cmuschoolofart / @cmu_bxa undergraduate of fine art and global studies @cmu_dietrichhss Their impact through scholastic/creative work has only been possible with support for research at the @cmucfa including from the STUDIO and the @centerforartandsociety

KEEP YOUR EAR TO THE GROUND for the next MS89 event and chances to participate in a photo album restoration from #pegasus ! BUT TODAY I needed to declare my admiration for the guest artists for LESBIAN PUNK PGH @sonyajreynolds and lauren hortie who made a hand cut paper silhouette film of Harriet and I’s show hosted by @shagpgh last spring. Made possible with support from @oppfundpgh and @studioforcreativeinquiry and @cmu_dietrichhss after Harriet and I’s initial work together in 2014, I created a digital collection for our online archives, helping her to share her posters and have @historycenter acquire the originals for their archives.
Thank you so much @em.kub for inviting me to the @carnegielibrary to teach paper mechanics basics and social history through the collection that started my research, the once in a lifetime venue #6119 more coming from both of us in the near future!
