Happy Juneteenth!!!
(Posting a day later out of respect to the holiday). I wanted to repost an old favorite. This is one of the animations for The Grio special: "Juneteenth Celebrating Centuries of Black Excellence", that I designed, illustrated, and animated.
It was an honor to be in a Grio Juneteenth broadcast, and I was especially ecstatic to have the privilege to celebrate such powerful holiday!
Juneteenth marks the moment (TWO years after the Emancipation Proclamation) when Union troops finally arrived in Galveston, Texas, and enforced the freedom of enslaved Black Americans. Today, we reflect, celebrate, and honor that freedom and Black excellence.

⚡️Zoila Camille Cruz Zarra⚡️is here and she’s spectacular!!! Embodying the strong women we named her after (our grandmothers), ZZ showed up like a goddamn force, hell-bent on an early dramatic entrance on March 22. Today would’ve been her due date.
The past few weeks have been humbling, raw, difficult, exhausting, and so so beautiful. We only hope that we can make her feel the same immense love & support & tenderness that our community of fam & friends has engulfed us in. Our wildest ride yet - we love you ZZ
