"It’s hard to escape ultraprocessed foods these days. A whopping 70% of our food supply is ultra-processed in the U.S. And unfortunately, quantity doesn’t necessarily mean quality when it comes to these food and drink options... It’s not realistic to go cold turkey and cut ultraprocessed foods completely out of your life. But there are steps you can take to reduce the amount of ultraprocessed foods you eat." It's Mental Health Awareness Month. Postpartum depression is a complex mix of physical, emotional, and behavioral changes that can happen after giving birth and is linked to chemical, social, and psychological changes. Many women have these symptoms following childbirth: trouble sleeping, appetite changes, severe fatigue, lower libido, and frequent mood changes.* More severe symptoms can include being uninterested in your baby or feeling like you’re not bonding with them, crying all the time, often for no reason, depressed mood, severe anger and crankiness, loss of pleasure, feelings of worthlessness, hopelessness, and helplessness, thoughts of death or suicide, thoughts of hurting someone else, and trouble concentrating or making decisions.* If you are experiencing these symptoms, talk to your doctor about treatment options.

May is National Preeclampsia Awareness Month, sponsored by the @preeclampsia.foundation . Preeclampsia is a life-threatening hypertensive disorder that occurs only during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Preeclampsia and related disorders such as gestational hypertension, HELLP (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, low platelets) syndrome, and eclampsia (seizures) are most often characterized by a rapid rise in blood pressure that can lead to seizure, stroke, multiple organ failure, and even death of the mother and/or baby. Symptoms of preeclampsia may include severe headache, swelling in the hands and face, visual issues, nausea and vomiting, stomach or abdominal pain, sudden weight gain, and/or shortness of breath. Knowing the risk factors, symptoms, and signs of high blood pressure during pregnancy can save a life. Learn more. >> preeclampsia.org
