We’ve been quietly working on a custom made yarn over the past year. Our exclusive new yarn blends Sally Fox’s Coyote brown cotton and Cestari Sheep & Wool’s Rambouillet wool which is spun using the woolen system at Cestari’s yarn mill, creating a distinctively soft and fuzzy hand feel. By incorporating Sally Fox’s naturally colored Coyote brown cotton, the blend achieves a unique warm hue without the use of any dyes, a testament to both Fox’s decades of careful plant breeding and our commitment to minimal environmental impact. This collaboration brings together two incredible people who have been dedicated to the work of creating, caring for, and growing plants or animals for their fiber. They have pioneered new pathways in the industry with care for the land at the core of their work. Originally, we had the launch of this yarn planned for our perennial favorite sweater, the Box Bomber. We had our e-comm inventory ready to go, but unexpectedly sold out through an early access partnership with @blackbirdspyplane on Sunday. Our factory has graciously agreed to make another small production run so that we can make sure anyone who wants one can get one. Pre-orders are now open. Read more on the journal or put in your pre-order. Both at the home page link in bio.

We are using RWS + Nativa Regen certified Shaniko wool in several different styles this season, it’s traceable and raised on regenerative rangeland. The fiber is grown, processed, spun, and knit in the USA. Shaniko is run by Jeanne Carver, who has been raising sheep with respect for the land and animals for decades. She explained to me that she’s been doing this work since it was called conservation, now it’s regenerative, but whatever you call it, the care and dedication is the same. She works with several ranches in the American West, including her own, to meet the high standards of RWS (Responsible Wool Standard) and Nativa Regen (Regenerative) certifications. She goes above and beyond these certifications to put resources into measuring the outcomes of their work. The resulting merino wool yarn and fabric is luxurious, soft and warm to wear.

Back in May, I went on a trip to Peru to visit the alpaqueros whose fiber we’ve been working with. They manage the land with regenerative practices that stem from their deep ancestral knowledge. We drove about 3 hours from Cusco and over 13,000 feet high up in the Andes. It was beyond inspiring and beautiful to see the dedication of this community and their respect and wisdom in caring for the land and animals. In working more directly with them, we’re able to ensure they are respected for their work and paid a fair wage for their fiber.   Read more about it on our journal ✨

The much anticipated new Easy colors... Barley & Stone Barley is a soft yellow with brown undertones. Almost a more saturated khaki color. Stone is a subtle neutral, a cool blue-ish grey. Reminiscent of washed out vintage sweatshirts. We’ve changed our production process a little bit. In the past, we would fabric dye which meant investing in rolls of fabric, meeting larger color minimums and having to keep colors around for a few seasons in order to avoid excess fabric waste. Garment dyeing offers a unique saturation of color, it becomes embedded in the full garment in a special way. This also allows me to offer more colors more often which I’m really excited about. I hope you enjoy this new exploration of easy wear!

Layers for shifting seasons. The Textured Cardigan, true to its name, has an intricate, super textured stitch with a tall rib collar. Paired with the Seed Shorts which are long, loose and have an elastic waist with side pockets. Made in a lighter textured stitch for a little more drape. The cotton feels soft with a dry hand. Designed for ease. Made in USA from seed to sweater with organic cotton & dyed with low-impact dyes.

where Wol Hide happens Some pictures I took earlier this year in Leah’s Mt. Airy studio. Leah was kind enough to answer a few of my questions about sustainability, the business owner / mom to small children juggling act, and her latest adventure- yarn production. You can see the rest of our shoot and hear from Leah on my substack, linked in my profile.
