As you might have noticed, we havenât promoted our event at Club Gretchen in the last few days.
We were, like many others, irritated and disturbed by the events surrounding the TMC concert and Gretchenâs following statements. Since then, weâve been in conversations and discussions, not only within our band and with everyone involved in Fridayâs event, but also directly with Club Gretchen. The dialogue with Club Gretchen reassured us of their good intentions and willingness to listen and learn.
â¨We hope that Gretchen and their team can keep playing the key role theyâve had for so many years in supporting and facilitating Berlinâs politically and culturally diverse music scene.â¨To us, this does, of course, include acting on the intent expressed in their last statement and taking a clearer stance against the genocide taking place in Gaza. Especially in the current political climate in Germany, we think it is hugely important to call out the atrocities in Gaza and elsewhere and to name the perpetrators clearly - the Netanyahu regime backed by the German and other Western governments.â¨
We believe that a culture that enables both expressing criticism and outrage while also making space to learn and grow together requires goodwill and patience from all actors, which, in times of social media debates and a devastating political landscape, seems so hard to keep up.
Considering all of the above, we have decided to go ahead with promoting Fridayâs event and would be very happy to see you there!

WNBL ist ein Kollektiv junger Musikschaffender aus Berlin und Potsdam, die EinflĂźsse aus elektronischer Musik, Jazz und Hiphop zu einer eigenen Mischung verbinden. Mit WNBL invites haben sie seit Beginn des Jahres eine Residency im Gretchen. Dabei gehĂśrt es zu ihrer sich ständig weiterentwickelnden Herangehensweise an Musik, dass sie regelmäĂig KĂźnstler*innen einladen, um musikalische Erfahrungsräume zu gestalten.
Kota No Uta ist eine in Berlin lebende Kßnstlerin, Produzentin und Singer-Songwriterin. Ihr Sound ist im Neo-Soul und psychedelischen Soul verwurzelt und reicht von afrikanischer Musik bis hin zu experimentellen und elektronischen Klängen. Als multikulturelle Geschichtenerzählerin schreibt Kota ihre Texte durch das Prisma von Metaphern und Mythologie, oft inspiriert durch tägliche Beobachtungen ihrer Umgebung. Ihr Markenzeichen ist die kraftvolle, dunkel gefärbte Stimme, die sie in ihren selbst produzierten Songs gerne mehrfach aufnimmt und ßbereinanderlegt. Kota No Uta setzt bewusst auf Kontraste und kreiert dadurch immer wieder ßberraschende Momente.
Im Jahr 2023 gewann Kota einen Female* Producer Prize von Sony Music Entertainment Germany und Music Woman.
WNBL selbst kommen wieder mit einer druckvollen Bläsersektion und einer Rhythmusgruppe, die aus zwei Schlagzeugern besteht. Alle Beteiligten sind musikalisch in der Berliner Clubkultur sozialisiert, alle hÜren Dub, Bass Music und Broken Beats. MÜglicherweise ist das der Grund, warum sie ihre Jazz-Skills niemals raushängen lassen. Stattdessen nehmen sie den Jazz beim Wort und spielen beeindruckende Live-Sets mit cleveren Beats, Improvisationen und wunderbaren Arrangements.
@dj.alkarline , deren Name inspiriert ist von der Alakali-Mangan-Zelle, umgangssprachlich auch Alkaline oder Alkali-Mangan-Batterie bezeichnet, sorgt dafĂźr, dass die Energiespeicher den ganzen Abend mit Groovy Electronica aufgeladen bleiben.
