It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of former high jump coach, Rick Heemskerk, who passed away on Tuesday.
Rick was a true cornerstone of the local track and field community. He led the high jump group with the Warriors from 2000-2017, bringing years of experience, patience, and passion to our program.
He also dedicated a number of years to coaching with the Kitchener-Waterloo Track and Field Association (KWTFA), touching the lives of countless young athletes.
Before he was shaping the next generation, Rick was an outstanding competitor himself. In 1975, he soared into the history books as the Canadian High School high jump record holder. He knew what it took to reach the top, and his expertise and love for the sport inspired so many.
Thank you, Rick, for everything you gave to the track and field community.

For those in the community who wish to pay their respects, visitation will take place at First United Church in Waterloo (16 William St. W.) on Monday, May 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and again on Tuesday, May 19 at 9:30 a.m., with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
