Genevieve Nnaji has been announced as part of the cast of BBC’s six-part thriller Wahala, an adaptation of Nikki May’s novel by BAFTA-nominated writer Theresa Ikoko. The series, produced by Firebird Pictures for BBC iPlayer and BBC One, stars a female-led ensemble including Adelayo Adedayo, Deborah Ayorinde, Cush Jumbo and Susan Wokoma, with Nnaji joining the cast as filming begins. Wahala follows four Nigerian-British women in London whose friendship is tested as long-buried secrets and new relationships begin to surface. The story moves between their present lives and earlier experiences, gradually revealing how their past continues to affect them. In a statement to BBC, Nnaji said she is pleased to be part of the project, calling it an ‘intriguing story’. Her casting in Wahala comes after a long hiatus from the industry since her 2018 appearance in Lionheart. In 2023, she coproduced I Do Not Come To You By Dance which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. BBC Studios will handle global sales. #WKMUpNews #BingeLife #GenevieveNnaji #BBCSeries #Wahala

Morgan Freeman and Lori McCreary are set to executive produce a new feature from C.J. Obasi. The project was unveiled at the Cannes Film Market as part of Seoul-based Flix Oven’s newly launched African-Korean filmmaker residency programme, created in partnership with Continental Entertainment, an African-focused representation and production company founded by Ozi Menakaya. Obasi has been named the programme’s inaugural fellow and will spend a month in Seoul developing the feature that has been described as a story bridging African and Korean cultures, with a theatrical release already planned. Freeman and McCreary will executive produce through Revelations Entertainment, the production company they cofounded. The collaboration continues Freeman’s growing connection to Nigerian cinema. In 2022, Revelations Entertainment partnered with Kaduna-based Nigerian filmmaking collective The Critics Company on the short film Ogun Ola: War Is Coming, which Freeman narrated and executive produced with McCreary. Obasi’s latest directorial feature A Blue Butterfly, starring Sanaa Lathan and Steve Toussaint, recently wrapped the London leg of production and has moved to Rwanda for its next phase of production. #WKMUpNews #BingeLife #CJObasi #Cannes #AfricanCinema
