To celebrate the Earth and Earth Day today we want to do some not so humble bragging on something we work really hard on each year, and that’s sustainability! Wizard Rodeo has prided itself on being a super green and sustainable event for years, but in 2025 we set new world wizard records. First, on the records, we had a diversion rate of 92% meaning only 8% of the total waste created during the festival went to the landfill and the rest was diverted to either the Recycling or Compost waste streams. This also qualified us as a “zero-waste” event once again, since we hit our goal and then some of diverting at least 90% of waste away from the landfill. Waste diversion is so cool y’all, but what’s even cooler than that? Not creating it in the first place! Not captured in these %s is our reusable cup program, which doesn’t create any waste whatsoever. Yippee!
If you’re wondering, but how can the greenest festival in Austin at Austin’s only zero-waste event venue pull off these seemingly herculean feats? The short answer is a lot of work by a lot of different people. Some festivals put their resources into light shows, we put ours into trash!
