REFLECTIONS - SANGAT AND THE SELF
19 Sep 2025 - 30 May 2026
without SHAPE without FORM HQ, Slough
For 90 minutes, the room gathered around a single thread - SIMRAN. Not as performance, but as practice. As a tool. As a way to connect to oneself.
The audience didnât simply watch. They entered the field of listening - repeating, responding, becoming part of the unfolding.
What emerged was Total Response: a space where sound, voice, and presence met in one shared practice.
Deep gratitude to the artists who stepped into the moment:
Carlos Niño
Surya Botofasina
Austin Williamson
Michael Alvidrez
with
Ishmael Butler
Angel Bat Dawid
and @koi_unnamed , guiding and voicing Simran.

This exhibition explores a path toward inner steadiness and purposeful living through FOCUSED PRACTICE, COMMUNITY and SELFLESS SERVICE. Offering practical guidance and clear insight into the nature of the mind â how it wanders, what obstructs it and how it can return to clarity.

What does it take to hone your artistic discipline?
Ahead of their performance in New York, Ishmael Butler of @shabazzpalaces and @nepsidhu join @iamdeepkailey in conversation to reflect on what it means to commit fully to an artistic practice.
Exploring their creative connection, they discuss the compulsion to create, and the passion, discipline and repetition required to continuously evolve their work and themselves.
Ish is a Grammy-winning musician and pioneer (Digable Planets, Shabazz Palaces), celebrated for his experimental approach to sonic architecture. Nirbhai (nep) Singh Sidhu is an interdisciplinary practitioner whose work explores the metaphysics of form and spatial rhythm within community. Together, they reflect a deep commitment to artistic growth, experimentation and the continual evolution of creative practice.

PATIENCE demands DISCIPLINE. It asks for REPITITION when results are not immediate and STEADINESS when outcomes are uncertain. Over time, that CONSISTENCY builds ENDURANCE that does not collapse under pressure.
Moments from our trip to the @labiennale last week - reconnecting with artists, collaborators and friends from around the world.
Â
So special to spend time with and see new works by Faiza Butt and Alexa Kumiko Hatanaka ahead of featuring both artists in our upcoming exhibition in Calgary this June.

In conversation with Deep K. Kailey, Artistic Director of without SHAPE without FORM âš
Without SHAPE without FORM is an assembly of artists, thinkers and cultural practitioners committed to making moments of self-discovery accessible for everyone.
Rooted in Sikh philosophical concepts, their contemporary programme creates space for meaningful conversations about the mind, drawing on insights and tools shaped by over 500 years of Sikh knowledge.
In this interview, we talk about the work, courage, compassion and community that sits at the heart of the project. Through exhibitions, podcasts, articles, workshops and gatherings for Simran (a practice of stillness and deep listening), theyâre building boundaryless, participatory spaces that support peace, resilience and purpose in an increasingly noisy world.

The MIND is constantly flooded with thoughts. Much of it is repetitive, automatic and rarely questioned. Through DISCIPLINE and steady RETURN, the excess starts to CLEAR. What remains is PRECISION - the ability to respond more INTENTIONALLY.
