A vibrant exhibit is making its way to Wistariahurst’s Great Hall. Artist Harold Dumas’ The Color of Familiar Places will feature his oil paintings of locations across Western Massachusetts. These pieces focus on creating emotional atmospheres, often highlighting overlooked places. Dumas says he wishes to offer viewers “a moment of recognition, a sense of presence that invites people to pause, breathe, and see their surroundings with fresh eyes.” Wistariahurst welcomes visitors to the opening reception of The Color of Familiar Places on June 25th, 2026, from 4:30-6:30 pm. This event is free and open to the public. The exhibit will be on view through July 28th, 2026, during open gallery hours, Mondays, 10:00 am-2:00 pm, and Tuesdays, 4:30-6:30 pm. #HistoricalSites #explorediscoverengage #thecityofholyoke #FYP #holyokeevents #wistariahurstmuseum #wistariahurst #artexhibit #westernmassart

Today's Wistariahurst Rewind is dedicated to the Mill River Flood of 1874. Known as one of the first major dam disasters in America, the devastating dam failure released over 600 million gallons that washed over four villages in one hour. Over 139 people lost their lives to the flood across Williamsburg. Skinnerville, Haydenville, and Leeds. The Skinners' family home, now Wistariahurst, was one of the few buildings left standing. #OnThisDay #HistoricalSites #explorediscoverengage #FYP #wistariahurstmuseum #westernmasshistory

Join Wistariahurst Museum for our next book club book, where we will discuss "Queer: a Graphic History," Written by Meg-John Barker Illustrated by Jules Scheele. From identity politics and gender roles to privilege and exclusion,"Queer: a Graphic History" explores how we came to view sex, gender and sexuality in the ways that we do; how these ideas get tangled up with our culture and our understanding of biology, psychology and sexology; and how these views have been disputed and challenged. Join fellow readers for this book club in recognition of Pride month. The meeting schedule is as follows: -June 16th having read pages 1-85 -June 16th having read pages 86-173 Books are available at the Holyoke Public Library #HistoricalSites #admissionfree #wistariahurstmuseum #wistariahurst #PrideMonth #BookClub
