Excited to announce @stevethebergeceramics will be our featured ceramic artist in our upcoming exhibition of work by @lovescott3 This is Steve’s 3rd go round here at Pulp. He is one of our favorite potters from the area and we are grateful to have his work here in Holyoke, keeping company with Scott’s paintings. Opening Reception is this Saturday from 5-7pm. You can preview much of the work online. Steve Théberge is a potter from western Massachusetts. He makes stoneware intended for daily service on the table, shelf, or altar. He shows his work across the country and has exhibited at the Smithsonian Craft Show and and Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show. He is a host on the Asparagus Valley Pottery Trail and on the board of Studio Potter. “Working primarily with stoneware and making use of a few slips and glazes, my pieces are intended for daily use on the table or altar. As I work I do my best to focus equally on the process and my state of mind, aware that each step of the way will be revealed in the end result. Deeply grateful for the boundaries that function and tradition place on my work, I aim to make objects that evoke a sense of history yet are born entirely of our present moment.” - Steve Theberge. Please join us this Saturday from 5-7pm . Come meet Steve!

@lovescott3 .. Scott Ackerman(b.1982) is a self-taught artist based in Margaretville, NY. He often works on found wood panels with acrylic, pencil and spray paint. Ackerman works quickly from a place of intuition. Wolves, cats, snakes, and people populate his paintings. And the gatherings. Titles, often point the way..’we’re ok’, ‘it’s all we need’, ‘a misunderstanding’. Scott’s work touches our soul with his sensitivity to his surroundings and his inner voice pushing him forward. . You can feel his connection to family, community, story, and the rural landscape of the Catskills. Scott lives with his wife and 2 kids and has converted the detached garage into his workshop and studio. We will be showing 25 paintings in our Main and Back Rooms. I am grateful to - @hawkandhive in Andes, NY run by Jayne Parker and @monument_hv in Kingston, NY, run by Sally & Rich Cali for introducing me to Scott’s work. In their programming you can feel their love of the work, and the artists they show. Hope you can come out this Saturday, May 9th from 5-7pm to see Scott’s work , meet his family and learn about the magic of the mountains.

we are excited to share our upcoming exhibition in our Front Room space of paintings by Earle T. Merchant. We recently consigned a new group of 45 paintings completed from 1961-1979. Earle T. Merchant (1903-1997) was a self-taught artist from Gloucester, MA. He graduted from Boston University Law School and practiced law for over 40 years. In the early 1960’s he picked up a brush, and began painting portraits, capturing hundreds of local residents from the community. He became an important figure in the Rockport Art Association, often monitoring classes and organizing life sketch groups. Merchant meticulously labeled the back of his work with the sitter’s name , date, and often age. All the work is now available to preview online. They are going fast. Hope to see you this Saturday , May 9th from 5-7pm.
