On August 5 2023, our upcoming film "Mystery's Colours and Lights" won "Best Digital Story" at the Accra Indie Film Festival (@accraindiefilmfest ) held at the Alliance Francaise d’Accra (@af_accra )! This is my first tangible award and winning on home soil is such a massive honour! It means a lot to me, personally, because filmmaking is darn hard! To add, I became a filmmaker from a happy accident, or call it serendipity, so to have my work patted on the back means a lot! It took a lot of sacrifice, fear, doubt and loss to pull this off but here we are! Thank God! Thank you, @accraindiefilmfest This project speaks to the change makers, the loud & silent rebels, the innovators, the brave and the soul of this nation, Ghana. 🇬🇭 Thank you to my incredible crew and a beautiful ensemble of cast who believed in this vision! Man, just who would have thought! It all still feels surreal that this little film was bold enough to become something bigger than itself. I owe it all to the amazing and down to earth team behind its success! Without you this would’ve still remained an idea in my head. Thank you! I’m constantly learning the difference between living my dream and living in the dreams of others. I’ve realised, to be successful at both, nothing matters more than humility, dedication and selflessness. In 2025, I was blessed with opportunities to share in the dreams of some incredible individuals and filmmakers whose visions made it to the silver screen and soared to greater heights. I’m excited to share a series of these moments. Firstly, I want to say a massive THANK YOU to my amazing friend @shandydaisy for inviting me into her dream, OWADWA @owadwa_shortfilm as one of three screenwriters of her beautiful film. It was a fun experience being part of her writer’s room and bouncing off ideas, studying other films and diving deep into research topics with the aim of creating a powerful film. We succeeded! So excited to see Shandy’s vision launch her to the Red Sea Film Festival @redseafilm among other incredible opportunities looming in. Congratulations to the whole team! Let’s do this again! For context, the last slide includes a video excerpt of Shandy receiving her Pan-African and grant at the Mobile Film Festival Africa 2023 in Rabat, Morocco, where I met Shandy and we instantly became good friends. The compositions are visually bold and quite heavy with both subject and colour, but there’s a quietness that comes through in the people within them. They become the sole point of focus and calm. The photo of the boys standing opposite the police captures silence through tension where the police are heavily armed and darkly dressed in bullet-proof gear, while the children are unarmed, bright in colour, and running freely. Visually, the tension is sharp enough to cut through. Another example is the sea with its crashing waves feel overwhelming next to the tiny figures in the frame.
