WT Bobine works both BIG and small! Bobine is quite peculiar in the way in which is has two distinct qualities depending on its size: At smaller sizes, it’s remarkably legible with an effortless, almost book-ish quality. A partnering set of italics just about catch the eye without being too distracting or fussy – a difficult balance to strike when dealing with such a coarse pixel grid. However, up large, Bobine’s curious display quality shines through with its starry units twinkling and dazzling all those who gaze upon! Bobine is a family available in 5 styles. Designed by @calame.bureau and published on @wise_type Licensing and Trials available at wisetype.nl <3

Last week I was invited to give a talk at @grafill_grafisk_design in Oslo and it was great! I talked about some work, WiseType, and how my practice has been moulded by two schools and ways of thinking: Kingston where I acquired the ideas – KABK where I acquired the craft. Here’s a few slides from the talk with some pictures from Oslo. Thanks for having me and in particular to @benjamingaupset for the invite 🫶🇳🇴

Zaft 🤩🤩🤩 Anyone remember this one from 2019? Well last year I did a little refinement and update when the new website went live. Forgot to post about it so here it is! In 2019, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam hosted ‘Mr. Gridnik’, a retrospective celebrating the life and work of Wim Crouwel – a pioneer of Dutch graphic design. The exhibition’s title referenced the nickname he garnered for his analytical, grid-obsessed approach. For Crouwel, the grid wasn’t just another design tool; it was a modernist proclamation, a system to revolutionise communication, as fundamental a tool as a chisel is to a carpenter. I made the pilgrimage up to Amsterdam and was awestruck to see his work in the flesh. Of particular interest to me was his series of typographic posters he designed for the Stedelijk Van Abbemuseum. Of these, I was drawn to the exhibition poster for ‘Beelden in het heden’ (1959), which displayed a punchy slab-serif lettering – a rarity in Crouwel’s work and perhaps why it piqued my curiosity. Inspired by the poster and exhibition, I quickly got to work, sketching some ideas upon my own grid. The project rapidly snowballed, all still adhering to the grid, but with a slightly more playful character evolving out of this rigid system. And with that, the foundations of Zaft were laid. Zaft is a weighty display font, full of eccentricity and impact. While rigid in design, there is a playful rhythm and harmony to the negative space, allowing for delicate pockets of air to exist between the heftily compact forms. This is further accentuated by Zaft’s hairline letter-spacing. A unique feature worth noting is Zaft’s use of contextual ligatures, which form rounded connections between particular glyph pairings. These gentle bridges add a touch of elegance to this otherwise heavy-duty design. Set your super-families aside and make way for Zaft – unapologetically single-styled. A true modernist at heart. Long live the grid! Full font trials available at wisetype.nl <3 …and if you read this far, if you’re rewarded with a 50% discount code: ‘BIG’ for Zaft 1-3 people license. Discount will end a week from today!

Bobine in use! 🍪 yummy 😋 @biscuiterie.koi is an artisanal biscuit maker. In November 2025, they opened a pop-up shop at Mineral House in Hwasun-eup county, South Korea. For their black-and-white identity they selected Bobine’s Bold weight, using it in a variety of scales – up large for the window displays and small poem-like inscriptions on the biscuit packagings. Bobine is a star studded design by @calame.bureau . Trials available on the website :-)

Free 4 Students! After a few student license requests, I think I should re-iterate that current students don’t have to pay a penny! Simply download the Trials from the trial page on the website and use for all non-commercial projects as part of your studies (an exception is made for commercial use, as long as it’s directly related to fundraising initiatives for student graduation shows). If you share any projects on IG, a tag would be appreciated! That way it’s nice to follow along with nice usage. And if it’s super nice it might be reposted here! After graduation, you may retain the trials to use in proposals for future projects. Hope everyone’s having a nice start to the year! Jacob xoxo

Skrappa in use by the legend @koosbreen for a commemorative coin for TT Assen: a century of motorsport history on “de Baan”. 🏎🏁🪙 Koos was one of the designers invited to create a coin. Unfortunately the design wasn’t selected for production but it still slaps nonetheless! 🤝 Design: @koosbreen King Portrait: @seb_agresti Renders: @new.orb
