How about we try that again with the whole video this time! 😜 Looks like our Social Media Manager needed a little more sleep post Met Gala Monday....and moving...I'm sure she has a good excuse! #livingthedream #glovemaker #metgalaglovemaker #metgalagloves #madeinthegarmentdistrict Thank you @laurenscala and @newyorklivetv for visiting to chat about Met Gala glove history! 🧤♥️ Proudly rooted in the Garment District, we are NYC’s legacy glove maker. Met Gala Monday is a special one for us; it’s a chance to see our neighbors and colleagues get their well-deserved moment in the spotlight. The artistry required to bring these magical looks to life is next level, and we’re honored to be part of the fabric that makes it all happen right here in New York City. 🧤✨ This year hit different in an exciting way. HUGE thanks to our @nycmayor for the recognition of the garment workers in NYC - it means everything to be seen by a Mayor who truly gets it!!! As New Yorkers from every walk of life, we take pride in the craftsmanship that makes our city the premier destination for arts and culture in the world. 🧤🗽 Shout outs to creative collaborators mentioned: @oscardelarenta @katyperry @marcjacobs @parishilton @nyembroiderystudio @christopherjohnrogers @evachen212 @ashtondsanders @thejordanboothe @csiriano @janellemonae @nbcnewyork And to our maker colleagues who call @garmentdistrictnyc our home - we see you and we lift you up! Here's to our continued bright future! ✂️🪡🧵

Today, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I want to share something meaningful ro me. Inside the gloves made for Melania Trump, Ivanka Trump and Usha Vance for the 2025 inauguration, I hand-wrote words that mattered deeply to me - quotes from Martin Luther King Jr., Michelle Obama, and Anne Frank. This was just one year ago. I never learned whether any of them looked inside the gloves, or even if they wore them. But choosing to place those words there - quietly and intentionally - felt like the right gesture in that moment. It was a private act of conscience "stitched" into public objects seen by millions, even if only from the outside. They were messages I genuinely hoped might be read and understood, and that might inspire strength in these women to do good. “The time is always right to do what is right.” - Martin Luther King Jr. “There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.” - Michelle Obama “You can always give someone something, even if it’s only kindness.” - Anne Frank These gloves were, as always, crafted by women and immigrants in New York City’s Garment District. ♥️ Special shout out to Glove Technician, Bebe from Guyanna, who has stitched gloves for every First Lady for the past 40 years. ♥️ #MadeInTheGarmentDistrict #MidtownMade #WeGloveYou

Some interesting info about creating The Pom-pon (as Sam lovingly named their cocoon coat.) -50 yards of jet black double silk chiffon was used to create the ‘faux fur’ collar and cuffs -we used more than 50 unique shapes of beads and stones The beads ranged from 2 mm caviar beads to 30 x 40 mm ovals -more than 160K individual stones and beads were hand placed and hand sewn -122 yards of jet black cup chain were used in the embroidery. That’s 4,392 inches of hand cut and hand-sewn application -Christians suit was embroidered with an estimated 25,000 bugle and caviar beads. -more than 42 tailors and dressmakers worked more than 2000 hours to create these looks for @samsmith and @christiancowan -more than 850 of those hours were spent on the beads alone -it took 5 people about 2 weeks to source the fabrics and beads. -each Tassel that hung from Sam’s wrist weighed 1.25 pounds and were hand strung -The Pom-pon weighed over 52 lbs -Sam’s dinner dress weighed in at a mere 16 pounds Special thanks to @wingweftgloves for accepting the challenge and for always coming through. -Special thanks to Larry Vrba for realizing Christians vision for Sam’s jewelry. You are a delightful collaborator and a true artist. -Special thanks also to Laura Weber @lwpearlatelier for your embroidery and for your passion your artistry and for all things embroidery and application. Thank you to @reillyfolsom for guiding us through Thank you to @samsmith for being absolutely delightful and oh so charming. I am a lifelong fan And most of all, thank you to @christiancowan for entrusting my team with your art and for your seemingly endless clarity and gratitude. We have had a very good time. #ilovemyjob #ilovemyteam #madeinnyc #gratefull

Today marks one whole month of moving, slowly but surely and doing it strategically enough that we can still make gloves throughout the whole transition. 🧤🌺 If you need gloves made you can still drop off the fabric and visit Katie Sue and @silvietheshopcat at 265 West 37th, 11th floor! Our rental program is on pause until we get Tamara set up at the new location, and we will certainly broadcast when we are ready for visits. And a reminder that we still have LOTS of things that are free to take away that can be useful for offices or workspaces, and adding new free fabric every day. The dream team from @bracitynyc swung by this morning to get some free fabric and adopt a sewing machine for their future bra-ltrerations ♥️👙 #glovemaker #madeinthegarmentdistrict #freestuffnyc @garmentdistrictnyc #freefabric

AND it's Bridal Fashion Week! 🧤💒 It's a pleasure to make gloves for many of the Designers and Brands showing this week; we specialize in Chantilly lace, fine tulle - and always leather! One of our favorite things to do for brides who are looking for something extra special is to make gloves out of the extra fabric trimmed away from the bottom of their hems and veils - and for those extra-eco-friendly brides, we can even make gloves out of a loved one's used wedding gown. The bridal industry doesn't move the way it used to; more and more brides are looking for ways to reduce reuse and upcycle! We glove it! 🧤💕 #NYBFW #BridalStyle #BridalGloves #NYBride @cfda #upcyclefashion
