Thanks to everyone who turned out for our monthly wine tasting at Cambridge Wine Merchants, Cherry Hinton Road last night The theme was Tour of France and I was very grateful to Martin Nuttall, a WSET Level 3 Alumni of mine for bringing a magnum of Bollinger for us all to share Martin kindly donated the bottle which he had won for writing the letter of the month in @decanter Decanter magazine on the undiscovered delights of Albanian wine. Congratulations Martin and thank you for your kind gesture which was greatly appreciated by all the guests. #wine #winetasting #cambridge #decantermagazine

Hearty congratulations to Maria who joins as the newest member. In her own words …. “María Laura Ortiz Chiavetta is an Argentine wine strategist, writer and educator working at the intersection of wine, luxury and place. From Mendoza and based between Spain and Argentina, her work explores how wine creates meaning beyond the bottle — through terroir, sensory identity and cultural positioning. She contributes to international platforms including Wine-Searcher and Great Wine Capitals, and serves as Ambassador for the International Wine Challenge and The World’s Best Vineyards. Through her projects Winifera and Winelux, she approaches wine as both a sensory and narrative experience — advising wineries, hospitality groups and luxury brands across Europe and Latin America. Beyond strategy and writing, María Laura is an active presence in the global wine community: she judges at international competitions across multiple continents, lectures and trains wine professionals in Europe, the Americas and Asia-Pacific, and has designed and led elite sommelier education programmes for some of the world’s leading wine organisations. A member of the Guild of Food Writers, she brings a distinctly Latin American perspective to global wine conversations.” #newmember #wineed #congratulations @abvtastings @linda.simpson.35513 @thelarderat36 @jesshw_wine @marialauraortizchiavetta @andrea.warren.14 @ninacerullo @chvinovation @winelux_businessinsider

Well that was fun! Big thanks to everyone who came along to the @athollhotel last night to taste their way through an eclectic selection of wines chosen from the 2026 edition of ‘100 AWEsome Wines’ curated by members of the @wineeducators 🥂🍷🍇 The style and colour spectrum included Albariño from Uruguay, Feteasca Alba from Romania, orange wine from Gérard Bertrand in the Languedoc, Rosado from Muga in Rioja, Zweigelt from Austria and Fortified Tawny from Australia. Individual AWEsome faves were split across the range but everyone was in agreement that the most AWEsome ( and great value for money ) was @bleasdalevineyards The Wise One Tawny. Great choice @linda.simpson.35513 ! #winetasting #wineeducators #wineeducator #wineeducation @bodegasmuga @weingut.pfaffl

It was great to be in the audience for the launch of Champagne Laurent-Perrier's latest edition of its multi vintage prestige cuvée, Grand Siècle - the 27th since its creation in 1959. True to the house's elegant style, it has nascent complexity, lovely balance and a gentle vinosity. It reveals its understated power on the unfolding finish. We also got to taste the very satisfying 2018 vintage, which delivers immediate charm, with ripe peach and zingy tangerine citrus. And a glass of L-P Rosé is always a welcome sight! It is very direct and brimming with juicy berries - but also surprisingly versatile with food. A classic. Thanks to @majorlypr for the invitation.

Introducing our newest member to the AWE. Congratulations Felix. In his own words……“Felix began his professional life as a chartered accountant, and spending some years in financial services before an unexpected passion took hold during the COVID-19 lockdown: wine. What started as curiosity soon became serious commitment. He pursued formal qualifications, earning the WSET Diploma (DipWSET) as well as certified WSET educator. Today, he teaches Levels 1–3 wine courses, guiding students through the fundamentals and finer points of wine with equal enthusiasm. Beyond the classroom, Felix hosts private tastings for groups — crafting accessible, engaging experiences that make wine approachable for all kinds of audiences. His interests extend well beyond the vine. Alongside his wine credentials, he holds the JSA Sake Diploma International, WSET Level 3 in Sake, the Shochu Advisor qualification. He has a keen appreciation for spirits too, with particular fondness for Baijiu, Shochu, Gin, and Armagnac, and has served as a judge at the International Spirits Competition, the World Spirits Award, and a number of other competitions.” #wineeducator #wine #congratulations @linda.simpson.35513 @abvtastings @brit_sake_assoc @thelarderat36 @felix.ko1
