Many English vineyards claim to be the closest to London, but a trip to Gusbourne in the spring sunshine proved the modern Kent luxury wine producer is only a hop, skip and a jump from the city. The slick train journey from St Pancras to Ashford and a short taxi ride to Appledore takes around 50 minutes, definitely less than an hour. However, when you are standing in the sun-drenched vineyards with a glass of Gusbourne Blanc de Blanc in hand, it feels like you are a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Head Vineyard Manager, Jon Pollard, hosted the early part of the press visit and led our group to the first vine ever planted in 2024, explaining 2026 is a milestone year for Gusbourne as this year will see its 20th harvest. Knowledge, passion and enthusiasm oozes from Jon, who has been at Gusbourne since its inception, as he talks about a new initiative, he is trialling in the vineyard called the One Block Challenge. The brave among us returned to The Nest via Butness Wood hanging off the back of a golf buggy, ahead of the tasting hosted by Head of Wine Laura Rhys MS and Head of Operations Alastair Benham. The tasting was a rare chance to try the 2025 base wines and the equivalent current vintage. Cuvées included Blanc de Blancs, Brut Rosé and Brut Reserve. More award-winning wines were enjoyed over the delicious lunch that followed including two still wines: 2023 Chardonnay Guinevere and 2022 Pinot Meunier Single Vineyard Mill Hill East. Not forgetting the estate’s prestige cuvée, 2016 Fifty One Degrees North. A visit to Gusbourne can include everything from a self-guided walk around the vineyards, a tasting, masterclass and lunch. Be that a relaxed vineyard platter served alongside Gusbourne’s top cuvées, or a three-course lunch prepared by the excellent in-house chef. There are also special events running throughout the year. An unforgettable evening at Kensington Palace for the Laurent-Perrier Gala Dinner, celebrating the UK release of Grand Siècle Iteration No. 27. Hosted by Alexandra and Stéphanie de Nonancourt in the historic Orangery, the room brought together Masters of Wine, sommeliers, fine wine merchants and media - all gathered to witness something special. The night opened with Laurent-Perrier Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature before the ceremonial arrival of Iteration No. 27 —-poured alongside hand-dived Orkney scallops in a champagne butter sauce. A pairing that was nothing short of revelatory. Grand Siècle was born from Bernard de Nonancourt’s vision: to recreate what nature alone will never provide —-the perfect year. Rather than a single vintage, it blends three exceptional years to achieve something greater than any one could offer alone. Iteration No. 22 in magnum followed, alongside Cornish hen, before the evening’s most memorable moment: Alexandra de Nonancourt speaking with warmth and grace about her life within the family business - and the special cuvée created in her honour. The Alexandra Rosé 2004, in magnum, was breathtaking. Paired with a three-ages-of-Parmesan course, it was the kind of food and wine marriage that reminds you exactly why these occasions exist. Kensington Palace provided the grandeur. Laurent-Perrier more than matched it. An extraordinary night. #LaurentPerrier #GrandSiecle #Champagne #KensingtonPalace #winepr

It looks like it’s from Provence, but it’s made in Kent! Gusbourne’s newly-released English Rosé 2025 is a wine that speaks eloquently of an extraordinary growing season and the singular character of its Kentish terroir. Pretty pale pink in colour, this wine has been crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, hand-harvested from Gusbourne’s Lower Mill Hill and Heartbreak vineyards on the ancient south-facing escarpment above Appledore. The 2025 vintage is defined by precision, vibrancy and an exceptional natural balance that is the hallmark of truly great English rosé. Head Winemaker Mary Bridges says: “Rosé is often thought of as the simplest of wines – pale, refreshing and uncomplicated. But achieving this apparently straightforward style is one of the more delicate exercises in winemaking. “Not all wines are built to age for decades, and nor should they be,” says Mary, who adds, “It’s perfectly all right to make wines that are just upfront and delicious. They bring a little bit of joy to the moment. Our English Rosé is designed to do just that. It’s intended to capture the brightness of the vintage, ready to be opened just as we enjoy the first warm evenings of the year. It’s the kind of bottle that disappears almost as quickly as it is opened.” The new English Rosé 2025 is available now from @gusbourne_wine , priced £29 per bottle (£25 for members). Join Gusbourne for A Long Rosé Lunch in celebration of Great British Rosé Week. Enjoy a relaxed wine-led Sunday on 3rd and 10th May 2026, when a sparkling wine reception will be served by the vines, before a seasonal three-course lunch, alongside a selection of award-winning still and sparkling rosé wines. #englishwine #winegb #greatbritishwine #roséallday #gusbourne

The sun’s out and so is @gusbourne_wine Brut Rosé 2020. Gusbourne, one of England’s most acclaimed sparkling wine producers, today announces the release of its Twenty Twenty Brut Rosé, a wine that is open and generous and which has spent an extended amount of time on the lees. The 2020 growing season was one of quiet confidence. Mild spring temperatures coaxed budburst at the start of April, and steady warmth carried the vines through a favourable early season before flowering began in early June. With flowering complete by the end of June, the estate was well-positioned for a mid to late September harvest. Dry conditions during ripening, paired with ideal temperatures, allowed for a near-perfect accumulation of sugars and the gradual development of Gusbourne’s characteristically complex flavour profiles. Picking commenced at the end of September, concluding in early October. The resulting wine is a study in contrasts: vibrant yet poised, fruit-driven yet defined by an elegant mineral thread. Head Winemaker, Mary Bridges, says: “The character of Rosé 2020 is shaped by the warmth and generosity of the growing season. Compared with 2019, on release, the 2020 vintage is notably more open. It’s immediately generous and full and powerful. Yet despite the ripeness of the fruit, the wine retains the brightness that defines English sparkling wine.” “There’s still a nice vibrancy,” adds Mary. “There’s finesse and elegance alongside the generosity. The final composition reflects that balance between energy and depth. With 59% Chardonnay – a relatively high proportion compared with 2019 – the wine carries freshness and tension. When you have more intensity coming from some of the Pinot components, it’s nice to temper that with something a bit more vibrant from the Chardonnay so that you’re not getting this overly red-fruited and floral, blousy rosé.” Enjoy sipping in the spring sunshine. #englishwine #englishsparklingwine #rosé #gusbourne #kent

Laurent-Perrier has released Brut Millésimé 2018, marking only the third vintage declaration in the past decade and reinforcing the House’s reputation for rigorous selectivity. The Champagne market typically declares three out of every four years, but Laurent-Perrier declares fewer than one in two - just 32 vintages from 52 years since the 1950s. The 2018 follows the 2015 and 2012 before it, with each release representing a rare and exceptional wine, characteristic of the House’s style. The year 2018 was marked by a mild winter and spring, accompanied by rainfall that encouraged vine growth from budburst, observed in mid-April. Flowering began in early June. The warm and sunny summer provided ideal conditions for grape ripening. Harvesting started at the end of August and took place under perfectly stable weather conditions. The grapes, of exceptional quality and great generosity, indicated a harmonious and promising vintage. Laurent-Perrier Cellar Master, Olivier Vigneron, says: “In 2018, the conditions were ideal: the vines grew under a beautiful sun and with an optimal water reserve in the soil...” The new cuvée comprises 52% Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs villages (Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize, Cramant, Chouilly) and 48% Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims (Verzy, Louvois, Aÿ, Tours-sur-Marne, Ambonnay). Following six years’ ageing on lees, the wine showcases Laurent-Perrier’s characteristic finesse and precision. Suggested pairings include oysters with seaweed butter, lemon-infused chicken supreme, or cheese soufflé. @champagnelaurentperrier Brut Millésimé 2018 is available now from @champagnedirect @hedonism_wines and @thefinestbubble RRP £82 per single bottle.

It was my absolute pleasure to organise the UK press preview of Grand Siècle Iteration N°27 this week. Eleven wine writers joined Laurent-Perrier’s Cellar Master and Oenologist, as well as UK MD and Brand Director, for an exquisite tasting and lunch at The Lanesborough. As well as the first taste of Grand Siècle Iteration N°27, we were treated to the new release of Brut Millésimé 2018. Recreating the perfect year Grand Siècle was born from the vision of one man, Bernard de Nonancourt: to recreate what Nature alone will never provide, the perfect year. While vintage in Champagne is generally seen as a synonym for excellence in prestige cuvées, Laurent-Perrier believe that the art of blending can achieve a level of perfection greater than any single year can offer. The expression of the perfect year is that of a great Champagne wine that has developed deep aromatic intensity, while successfully preserving its freshness and acidity over time, ensuring remarkable ageing potential. To reach this expression, Grand Siècle’s assemblage is based on three principles: • Three exceptional years are selected for their unique character and their ability to guide the blend toward the expression of the perfect year. • A majority of Chardonnay complemented by Pinot Noir, sourced from up to 11 Grand Crus selected among the 319 Crus of Champagne. • Extended ageing on lees: 10 years for the 75 cl bottle, and several more years for the magnum (150 cl). Since 1959, Grand Siècle has been revealed only 27 times in bottle format and 24 times in magnum. One of the guests described Grand Siècle Iteration N°27 as subtle, but precise, persistent on the palate and with an abundance of freshness. #grandsiecle #laurentperrier #champagne #prestigecuvée #presspreview
