WCR rejects the Executive Order that bans trans women from playing sports. Policies that deal in fear and dehumanization do not align with the empathetic, compassionate space WCR works to build every day; the federal government may legislate harm, but it will never be able to control how people live in their bodies. WCR believes people get to decide how they move through the world.
Are we for trans/gender expansive inclusion in our league and sport? Unequivocally YES.
Are we against the ban? Unequivocally YES.
When the Executive Order hit, WCR opted to pause and check in with our league first in order to create a thoughtful path forward. We’ve been busy discussing contingencies in our leadership team, consulting legal counsel, and dialoguing with our entire league. We’re thinking through risk, resistance, and the ways our volunteer-run organization with an existing mission can serve our membership while also meeting the needs of the moment. And, most importantly, we are asking our trans/gender expansive friends who are actively being harmed by these discriminatory actions what they need, and then we got to work in taking some actions.
Operational Readiness, Member Safety, Collective Action.
Our league has been holding ourselves accountable to not just say what we believe, but also to do what we believe. We’re going to keep skating, making our league better, and being resilient in the face of unprecedented hostility that is hitting our leaguemates and community. We also recognize this is a luxury afforded to us because we are located in Chicago and Illinois and we do not have the same level of local and state pressure some leagues may be experiencing. On that note, reach out if you want to talk or work together.
We’ll get through this.

The All-Stars were frosty and furious in last weekend's game against @a2rollerderby ! The cold couldn't keep our spirit down; we finished the game at 133 with Ann Arbor A at 50.
Thank you @a2rollerderby and friends for a great game!

Over the weekend our All-Stars faced off against the @windycityrollers in two action-packed bouts during our final bout of the season: THE BOUT FAIR!
In the first game of Saturday night, Minnesota Nice took on Windy City’s Second Wind, in a hard-hitting match. In the end, the visitors from Chicago took the W: 160 to 93!
In game two, the Minnesota All-Stars battled it out against the Windy City All-Stars. Strong defense, explosive offense and determined jammers were on display from both teams. Ultimately MNRD was victorious, with a score of 114 to 87!
Finally, on Sunday, skaters from around the Twin Cities, and beyond came together to take on our All-Stars’ B-Team. A fun and challenging scrimmage ending with The World taking the win; 160 to 81!
We’ll be back in the @theroywilkins in the fall when our home team bouts begin for season 23!
