Riding in the media boat for the Windermere Cup, weaving through the cut with thousands of people cheering from shore was a blast! Got to watch crews from GBR, Canada, and UW compete up close and it was something special. Thanks UW for giving me the opportunity!
International crews, Olympic medalists, photo finishes, and a packed Cut… the 40th anniversary of the Windermere Cup absolutely DELIVERED!
🇬🇧 Great Britain’s women controlled the race from the start to claim their third Windermere Cup title, holding off strong charges from Washington and Canada.
🔥 The men’s race came down to the FINAL stroke. Washington edged Great Britain by just 0.165 seconds in the closest men’s finish in Windermere Cup history.

The 40th Windermere Cup opened with amazing weather. Thousands lined the cut to see the Huskies take on the 2024 Olympic bronze medalists from Great Britain and the 2024 silver medalists from Canada. GBR earned a win over while the Huskies held off Canada to finish second.

Tens of thousands packed the shores, bridges, and anchored boats along the Montlake Cut today for the 40th Windermere Cup and Seattle delivered. The UW men’s varsity eight held off Great Britain’s national team by just 0.165 seconds in what coaches called one of the most competitive races in the event’s four decade history. The women’s Huskies fought hard for second, splitting an elite field that included two Olympic medal winning crews.
Beyond the racing, Opening Day brought the city out in full force, the kind of spring morning that makes this stretch of water feel like the centre of Seattle.
