Gorée Island stole a piece of my heart 🇸🇳 One of my favourite spots in Senegal, so beautiful, so powerful, and filled with such deep, rich history. As a woman of colour (even though I love my creams 🤭), this place really touched me… it lit up something in me I can’t fully explain. Just standing there, feeling it all, wow. One of my highlights? Finding this gorgeous bag from a local queen We met Mama Aida Sene, who sits by the little blue tuck shop (Cafe Touba / Ataya spot) selling her handmade bags. I spotted one instantly, you know when something just calls you? At first, she stayed still, turning her head away shyly, not wanting to be on camera. But after a little chat and buying a bag, the energy shifted… we ended up getting two more 😅 and she softly said it was okay to film her. Such a sweet moment. I loveeee supporting locals wherever I go, it just makes the experience feel so much more real and connected. So when we go as a group, we will be stopping by to show Mama Aida some love. Are you aware of the berimbau instrument? @acordacapoeira in Brazil uses the berimbau as the main musical instrument in their capoeira performances. The berimbau is a traditional Brazilian musical bow made of wood, a steel string, and a gourd resonator. It sets the rhythm and energy of the roda (the capoeira circle), guiding how the players move and interact.
