Can you tell me a little bit about how Bricked came about, what inspired your screenplay?
When I was living in Lewisham, I would always walk past the phone shop used in the film on my way to the shops. Aesthetically, I loved the look of it, especially the colours at night. I kept thinking to myself it would make a great location for a film, so I built a story around it. I challenged myself to keep it predominantly in one location and see how the narrative would unfold within those constraints. For my main character, I drew big inspiration from the lead in ‘Daddy Longlegs’. I wanted him to be a ticking time bomb, someone who could snap at any moment, to really reinforce the urgency that drives the film.
