Still feeling the energy from Friday night. A huge thank you to everyone in NYC who came out to experience Andrés’ live ensemble—it was an unforgettable night. Big love to Blank Forms for putting on such a beautiful event. The venue was incredible, the crowd was deep, and it was amazing to see so many people come together to celebrate the catalog of Andrés—performed live with a full band for the first time outside of Detroit. This music has lived in record crates and dancefloors for decades, but bringing it to life with a band—Dez on congas, and some of Detroit’s finest musicians—gave it a whole new dimension. Just two days away. This Friday in NYC, we’ll be performing a full live set of music by the one and only Dez Andrés—and it’s something truly special. A lot of people outside of Detroit know Dez as a world-class producer and DJ—his records on La Vida, Mahogani Music, and collaborations with artists like Erykah Badu and J Dilla have traveled far and wide. But what many haven’t seen is Dez on congas—and if you’ve never witnessed that side of him, you’re in for some heat. Dez comes from a long line of incredible Cuban musicians—his father is a multi-Grammy-winning percussionist who’s played on countless legendary sessions. That rhythmic legacy runs deep, and when Dez joins us on congas for this show, it takes the music to another level.
