Some pictures of the 360 mural I wrapped up last week for @leopoldstavern . Featuring a beholder, some skeletons, a demon lord, a Dragon, and several adventurers. There are some ceiling details not shown here. This whole project took about 5 weeks, and painting the mural was a solid 3 weeks non-stop. Well, except for sleep, and my other job. Okay, one last video. It's real hard to capture this mural on film because the light casts a pretty bad glare when looking straight on. But I think I did an okay job, except the dragon isn't very clear. I'll post some pictures soon. Thanks again to Mike at @leopoldstavern for putting his trust in me and giving me an opportunity to do something big and fun. 3 weeks of non-stop work, all while I was still working full time at my other job. Madness! But, I'm relieved to say it's finally finished. Beholder! Close to finishing up the blue section of this mural last night, well, other than the ceiling! This gnarly dude will be creeping up on some unsuspecting party which I will commence painting soon. Big shout out to @chrstsn_ and @drewstuff for recommending me for this job. Been a blast so far! I've always wanted to do a wall scale fantasy painting. And @leopoldstavern for the trust and opportunity. A very satisfying end to this half-year journey! Mark and I installed his commissioned painting after nearly 5 months of a lot of thought, time, and energy. I am extremely grateful to Mark for giving me the opportunity to explore and experiment with methods and materials that I was unfamiliar with, and for the trust he had in me to create something unique and bespoke to him. This was truly a challenging project from the outset. It is the largest painting I have done, measuring in at 36" x 56". The canvas is actually several types of wood that was cut to fit together; Maple, Oak, Mahogany, and Black Walnut. This was attempted more than once, and at some point I needed to rip it all apart and start over! In aiming to keep the natural tones and patterns of the wood throughout the process, I had to be careful not to over-paint, and even though I primed and sealed the surface, the porous nature of the wood left very little room for error. The frame is made of poplar with some acacia rivet details. In keeping with the theme, I stained it in similar tones and with a grungy finish. #painting #oilpainting #woodart #wood #artwork #drawing

Learned how to #lasercut yesterday and it's everything. Making a toy for Nadya's nephew with swappable arms, legs, and tail. He can make a dinosaur or a lovecraftian monster!

I’ve had the great fortune of being the artist in residence at @tidalartcentre in Lund for this month. It’s been amazing. It’s gorgeous here and there are so many friendly people. I’ve been staying in a transformed ranger station right on the Pacific Ocean. For me, this month has been all about diving into process and ideation and removing the mind constraint of finishing work. Rather that focusing on the end result, my time here has been spent in capturing imagination, form, and composition. As well, working on various imagery for a story I have been mulling over for the past two years. In all, this has been a wonderful opportunity as an artist. At the end of my stay I will be showing some of the many small paintings I’ve been sketching out at the gallery up here. Big thanks to Nancy, Gordon, and Prashant who have been most generous and welcoming.

ART TRANSFORMATION!! Woo **Swipe >> Right** So I painted this picture of my beautiful friend @jamieleighgonz several years ago and definitely did not do a great job. I managed to get a barely passable portrait that only vaguely looked like her. Well I had it sitting around in my studio, then apartment for ages and decided I would give it a second life. I streamed the painting on my twich channel (twitch.tv/willphillipsart). Had a great time hanging out last night and finishing up this piece I labeled 'Roaming Giant'. @thomazisdrawing and I started this composition a couple years ago as a test piece for the @goldenbrushart live painting competition. (Swipe right to see) I always liked the composition and gesture of it and I've been going over my unfinished paintings and '2.0'ing them... which is a really fun exercise.
