Canyons 100k race started shrouded in darkness in the Tahoe National Forest with snow on the ground, Will and Zach ready to tackle the challenging course.
Zach pushed the pace all day at the front competing for the title, ultimately securing second place and a spot in two months @wser .
Will didn’t have the race of his dreams, but still finished strong in 11th. He battled on a tough day that will mentally prepare him for the 100 mile big dance in June.

Will’s breakthrough 2025 season began with a stunning second-place finish at the Black Canyon 100k in 7:26:53, earning him a Golden Ticket to the Western States 100 despite being a relative unknown in the professional ranks. He followed that with a course-record victory at the Javelina Jundred 100-mile race, crossing the line in 12:10:12 and proving his debut success was no fluke. Will emphasizes durability over peak fitness — the ability to execute at aerobic threshold after 10 hours of running. His weekly volume hovers around 80–100 miles, balanced by strategic “bike-to-run” brick workouts that allow him to accumulate intensity without the muscular damage of excessive running mileage.
Will used to be an elite competitive cyclist. That taught him something early: real progress isn’t about going all out every day, but knowing when to hold back and when to trust the process. When he found Suunto, it felt like a natural fit – a partner that believes in the long game, in listening to your body without obsessing over numbers. Now his eyes are set on the 2026 Western States 100. Not for instant glory – but to see how far a regular teacher, showing up day after patient day, can really go.

Will Murray is coming.
Two years at Chuckanut 50K, two eighth place finishes. Third time, he won it in 3:33:54, the seventh-fastest time ever run on the course. A strong start to his season as a Brooks trail athlete, with a golden ticket to Western States in his pocket from Javelina. The momentum is building.

Open Fuel athletes and PNW locals @jadebelzberg and @willmurray.run each lined up for their third year at the @chuckanut50 .
Will got his long sought after win in a blazing time of 3:33. Jade continued her success on these trails with a second place finish in a stout 4:22 on muddy trails. Most importantly, both finished with a smile on their face.

It was a memorable week at @brookstrailrunners team camp on Maui! One of my goals for this year is to meet other professional athletes and learn from them. When Will Murray broke his ankle less than two weeks from the start of the 2025 Western States 100, the setback simply stoked his fire. His path back to the start line in Olympic Valley led through the desert, at the singular @javelinajundred , where Will would face a stout field including defending champ David Roche.
The Open Fuel squad was fortunate enough to come along for the ride, capturing the story of Will's course-record win...and even do a little racing ourselves.

Back from a fun @cts_ultrarunning training camp in the desert with a great group of Montanans to get the 2026 season underway.
A major takeaway for me was that adjustments are the essence of training. There’s not a lot of green on that @trainingpeaks calendar, but that’s the way it should be when my body tells me to make changes. I was sick the first half of the week so I had to dial back the effort and skip the biggest day of running, but I recovered and ended up leaving the camp stronger than when I arrived. One of the training principles I set for myself going into last year was ‘Be willing to adjust the plan as much as necessary based on how my body feels’. So this is something I’m constantly learning and reminding myself of.
It’s also much easier to make the right decisions with guidance from coach @ackfitz who is an expert of the technical side of endurance coaching and a master of the human side. He’s always listening and making adjustments to help us learn what makes us the best athletes we can be.

Will Murray ranked 8th for the 2025 UltraRunner of the Year. Murray had a breakthrough year in 2025, highlighted by his course-record-breaking victory at the Javelina Jundred 100-miler in Arizona, where he finished in 12:10:12. Earlier in the year, he placed second at the Black Canyon 100k in February with a time of 7:26:53, earning a Golden Ticket to the 2025 Western States 100. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury in the spring and had to withdraw from Western States. In August, he set a course record at the Grand Traverse 40-miler in Colorado, winning in 5:36:27.
