lacy newness on the loom | Brooks Bouquet bundles in linen for a special project with @studio_db
that copper? one of several vintage piano cords we incorporated, alongside the horse hair of a violin bow 🎼 (yes it’s situationally relevant, more on that later)
I’ve never been formally trained on Brooks Bouquet, so this is how my hands figured it out when I sat at the loom.
15 years into my weaving practice and I’m learning to follow my hands + intuition🤝

knots and things with felted wool and paracord
belgian linen + silver warp
the braid I’m using as the thickest weft is one that I learned from a 90’s teen-girl magazine when I was 8 yrs old.
I ripped the page out of the mag and practiced in the car on a road trip, using the same plastic lanyard we used at summer camp for “the box” stitch, 25 yrs ago
in france they call that plastic lanyard “scoubidou” which, yes, is pronounced almost exactly as Scooby Doo. I’ve always wondered what the etymology is there
ruh-roh!

Repetition calms the nervous system, the texture keeps you present, and the structure offers a kind of certainly only found in mathematics, and rarely found in everyday life.
It’s not mindless—it’s mindful, and if you, know you know.
