Hi everyone! I will be treating this account strictly as a personal account, but I’ve created a music account where I’ll be posting all of my music. If you’re interested in what I’m doing musically, check it out @musicbywill_
THIS SUNDAY!!!!!! Mark your calendars if you want to hear some amazing music in Philly. I will be joined by Jonathan Paik on nord/synth, Max Glazier on drums, and now also Will Tober on bass!!! You don’t want to miss this.
This is a night of new and old. The music presented June 29th will find inspiration in improvisation and spontaneity as well as push the boundaries of tradition.
The duo -Jonathan Paik x Will Fredendall- has been collaborating for over six years. Paik works with new technology, merging the keyboard and synthesizer to explore sound with spontaneity while grounding in deep improvised traditions. Fredendall works with the flute, an instrument found in musical traditions thousands of years old yet still ripe for exploration. Together, -Jonathan Paik x Will Fredendall- will create a sound reminiscent of the old while feeling distinctly of this age.
The trio -Max Glazier x Will Tober x Will Fredendall- is a project new enough to feel fresh, an exciting conversation between three dedicated musicians. Their music explores the deep history of rhythm, using a mixture of groove and free time the trio merges between old and new sounds seamlessly.
Both groups work with improvisation and spontaneity, and the only way to experience it is to come in person on June 29th. You won’t want to miss this People’s Music Supply Industry Night.
BIG NEWS!!!!! | 6/29 MARK YOUR CALENDAR |This show is going to be amazing, please show up if you’re in Philly. I’ll be playing two sets, one with @jonathan_paik and the other with @maxglazier

This is my first attempt at a really hard extended technique and I want to share it here. It requires control in circular breathing, flute technique, and singing/playing all at the same time. This is recorded in one take with no overdubbing.

"Echoes of the Sublime: Landscapes in Water and Sound"
April 4th - 27th
Kirby Fredendall and Will Fredendall
This collaboration between artist Kirby Fredendall and musician Will Fredendall (flute), along with his free jazz trio (Jonathan Paik, Piano and Alex Yoo, drums), explores the intersection of visual art and music in an innovative and dynamic form.
The artwork, created on acid-washed tin, serves as a canvas for expression—both as a standalone piece and as a catalyst for the sonic interpretation that follows. Observation is central to this project. Each viewer brings a unique perspective, interpreting the mood, colors, and forms differently. Likewise, the trio responds to these paintings in real time, translating the visual experience into music.
Will Fredendall and his musicians engage with the artwork through free jazz, a genre known for its improvisational nature and emotional depth, forging a direct dialogue between sound and sight. They approach the paintings as living, breathing entities—capturing shifts in mood, rhythm, and feeling, and transforming them into sonic expression.
We are indebted to the generations of artists and musicians who came before us, each contributing to the evolution of their craft. But in a world that constantly changes, we ask: what can we offer that is fresh, that is uniquely ours? We believe the answer lies in shared, immediate observation. A response to art is never static; it evolves with each viewer and, in this case, with every note played, every moment of improvisation.
In this fusion of visual and auditory expression, we explore how art and music interact, reflect, and respond to one another in ways both deeply personal and universally resonant.Through this collaboration, Kirby Fredendall’s paintings become more than images—they become a conduit for exploring perception, a living experience interpreted not just through the eyes but also through the ears. In turn, Will Fredendall and his trio embody the freedom of jazz, responding instinctively to the energy and emotion of the artwork, highlighting the ever-changing interplay between sight, sound, and sensation.

This is a super important announcement for all Philly people! I am hosting two incredible groups for a house show Thursday, June 13th. The doors open at 7pm and the music starts on my roof deck at 8pm. My place is located just above Chinatown in Philadelphia and parking is easy to find. You’ll find a description of both groups below:
Freewill is a quintet consisting of members from Philadelphia, New York, Boston, and Chicago. This show includes the music of Sun Ra and Ornette Coleman as well as original compositions.
Fugitive is an improvised hip-hop band born in Los Angeles currently on tour across the east coast.
Old friends and new please come out to support these groups! We’ll have drinks as well so come early to chat. Looking forward to seeing you there!
A new style of improvisation I’ve been working on. There’s something deep about it that’s worth discovering.

hi everyone :) it is my deepest pleasure to announce the release of the debut album by ARKO-IRIS, a duo project featuring will fredendall on flute and myself on contrabass. although this duo is brand new to the public, will and i have been playing duo sessions for years, effectively building our own individual sounds alongside each other. will is absolutely my most trusted musical partner, and one of my favorite musicians alive today. this first collection of tracks features four improvisations we recorded with predetermined parameters, based on sound concepts that we have practiced & refined; some of which we worked on together extensively for years, and other newer ones that we have worked out techniques for separately & then came together to create a synthesis between our practices. i’m overwhelmingly proud of the end result, and i’m very excited to share this work with you. out on all platforms september 15, 2023!
