Right on Hereford, left on Boylston, and there it is. I’d heard people call it a religious experience. I get it now.
I thought about how many things have to go right for one person to cross that finish line. The cold, the snow, the long runs where I questioned the whole thing, the hills, the miles where stopping felt like the most reasonable idea in the world. I really tried to embrace the quote by Ken Chlouber, founder of the Leadville 100, “make friends with pain, and you’ll never be alone.” I thought a lot about how lucky I am. Lucky to be alive. Lucky to have an amazing support system (
@cassieg_11 being a huge part of that). Lucky to be in pain because of something I chose to do.
Also, still a little surreal that I got to be one of
@bankofamerica ’s featured charity runners this year. My phone was blowing up for weeks with photos from friends who spotted my face on banners and signage all over the city. One of the strangest, coolest experiences of my life. Truly one of a kind.
Thank you to everyone who showed up, sent a message, or chipped in. You helped me hit my fundraising goal for
@homebaseprogram and
@runformgh and I can’t tell you how much that meant on the bad days. The fundraiser is open for another week if you want to add to it. The work Home Base does for veterans and their families is truly amazing. Link in bio.
I LOVE YOU BOSTON!!!
